Am I the only one for whom standard hallway conversation seems to be about the correct weapon and ammo choice for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse.

I believe a small caliber weapon would suffice, enough to shoot your partner in the leg. Just remember you don't need to outrun the Zombie just the person you're with.

The correct weapon is one with out ammo. For 1 your ammo can run out as the zombies will bring normal societal economics to a grind. For 2, when they are flooding in and you need to reload you will really wish you had a 4 ft long Katana to just hack away. I never understand why this is not a given. Every zombie flick they have some overpowered gun and either run out of ammo or get flooded to quick and can load/shoot fast enough. A swarm of zombies is nothing when I am twirling like a ballet dancer with an additional 4 ft reach of severing/decapitating capability :)

And don’t forget your armor! A simple medieval chainmail will make you invisible invincible for the biting suckers.

If zombies were flooding in, do you really think you could wind up and just crank their heads up with a 4ft blade? Can I buy weed from you?

I would stand a better chance than with a shotgun or some ammo based weapon that will inevitably require me to need to break to reload while still being flooded. With a Katana you can cut your way to an escape OR you can barricade yourself and use decapitated zombies to further barricade yourself in:) Difficult to do wither of those when reloading or out of ammo ;)

Naa that will just way you down. Must be fast like a ninja. Zombies out number you vastly so armor is pointless. Armor is used for long battles. You do not want to fight an army of zombies for long. Cut and run and spin and cut :)

I may sound a little too practical, but for me a harvester with a trailer and a golden teeth sorter device will do the job.

Reload. You pick up the brass, melt lead and pour bullets, and have a good recipe for powder.

Weapons, yeah, I'll have them, but I'll mostly be using incendiary devices and rope. Lots and lots of rope. Ropes for traps, ropes to escape, ropes to create fences, ropes to secure openings. Everyone should get accustomed to making and utilizing sharp objects on sticks. I will have these and use as fits each encounter. Ranked in descending order of importance: Machete attached to a hockey stick (or any pike type weapon), crossbow, shotgun, maybe a sidearm (don't need a 45, the ammo is heavy and will be scarce, 9mm or less) to only use when fucked. After the zombies calm down and other survivors become an issue, that's when the AR / long rifles become useful. Most people will die pretty quickly though. Water, food, shelter and sanitation are much, much more important than weaponry.

A little too risky, considering that a single bite will turn you into a Justin Bieber fan!

Hey now, I think the brain dead zombies might take offence to that statement if they could!

I wasn't suggesting a firearm at all. I think swinging a sword sideways with decapitating force is unlikely. Spearing heads, that's much more likely. You'll need to figure out a way to pull the weapon back out though.

I am not talking broadsword or traditional swords of Western Europe here. Also, if hit right it should slice right through. A person breaks their neck quite easily with there own weight when being hanged falling incorrectly so the force power is not significant. Need only worry about it cutting all the way through for additional swinging. That is why one should use a fine grade Katana... None of that Western Europe Broad sword crud. That is too heavy and will get stuck.

And there in lies the rub. The stabbing in and out action is too slow. You are better off gambling and hoping you can swing right through the beasts. If it works you take out multiples. If not, well you were dead any other option (when they are flooding towards you). Also with the swinging action even if it does get stuck you are in the same situation as in the stabbing motion in that you have to pull the blade/spear towards you prior to the next attack (be it stab or swing). So it seems you loss nothing, but added the chance to have a clean sever. No chance for that with stabbing motions.

Well that's why I would prefer to stab the skull with a long pike that has a stopper to prevent too deep of penetration, with a hole in the stopper plate to push the skull off. 4" should be enough to hit the brain. Either way, I'd rather have my weapon of choice keep me further away from the damn things.

We only talked about it a couple of times so far here at the office, once was at a company lunch. I just listened but that is because I already know that a sword is the best weapon. Multiple if possible.
