Am I the only one for whom standard hallway conversation seems to be about the correct weapon and ammo choice for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse.

I definitely see the usage of a nice long spear. It goes with my logic of not being reliant on heavy ammo that will eventually run out and leave you helpless. I can see a spear having its usage, but a spear is a bit harder to manage in certain circumstances. The two that come to mind are close quarters (hallways etc) or when the numbers of zombies are well into the double digits. Seems like a spear would be good for clean up of some wondering zombies onto your area of control. Send a spearman out to take him down with little risk. However, say you scoping to get some supplies and need to go into an infested area. The numbers could end up over whelming. A sword allows you to slash and run. Really it is not about stabbing the head on as many as you can in this case, but rather leaving a hole for you to escape. In other words cutting any appendage off is just as effective if it allows you to escape. Or cutting anything that may create obstacles (this is more likely true than stabbing something to create obstacles IMO) Also, if you can't escape but have to barricade yourself in somewhere a spear would be very difficult to use at that point. As long as you have a few feet on either side of you you can swing the sword with quite a bit of force while a long pole would get stuck or you would not be able to pull back enough to the stab forward.

Well it is a zombie apocalypse, isn't that unavoidable? Any good holywood flick teaches us that the "safe" area is just a carrot to keep people moving :)

I intend to hunker down in place, if the outbreak starts when I'm near it. Or head to a bugout location, depending on where I am at the time. I've noticed you have not mentioned any armor or projectile weapons. Duct tape and seatbelts make good bite proof flexible materials, and slingshots never run out of ammo (I assume you'll need to kill game to eat).

All of that stuff is good but I don't consider it a weapon for the zombie apocalypse. That falls more into the survival kit etc. Duct tape, crossbow, fishing pole, sleeping bags, tent. The list goes on. Most of that stuff I have just for hobby and practical goods. Would just have to gather it when it hit the fan. I think a crossbow and fishing pole are the best tools for food gathering though. Quiet, reusable, and lightweight with little maintenance. Good idea with the seat belts!

If I need to travel, I will get my traveling out of the way immediately as shit hits the fan. As soon as food is scarce, people will cannibalize, so you will be fighting armed, ambushing people along with zombies. Know what if any place is worth raiding immediately. I think nets and snares are pretty good, fishing implies you will be stationary near a shore, though you can improvise a live catch trap out of a lot of things. As people die off, I assume rats and pigeons will be even more abundant.

Alas, my coworkers are woefully oblivious to the threat. I doubt that any of them has given a moment's thought to the problem. In fact, I don't think more than one or two of the linemen have weapons, and I'm certain none of the rest of the office staff have access to any sort of gun. Carrying on any sort of discussion with them is a waste of time, and I think they're beginning to worry about me standing by the coffee urn all day, debating with the voices which appear to speak only to me about the merits of the various calibers and delivery systems I have in my personal arsenal. I don't know why they should be concerned; someone obviously needs to be looking after their welfare and defense...:suss:

Good point. Anyone would think they spent their entire working life doing nothing but reading and writing comics! It definitely warps their view of reality and the reactions that real people would have in certain situations.
