Ask one dumb question where a decent google search could have found the answer, and recieve a bunch of downvotes on old questions and answers totally unrelated to current problem. Even got an old question from 2009 deleted.

Given the two people who responded, I can guess which one downvoted you. He has a history of being overly arsey - his glory hunting has led to him becoming one of the most unpopular posters I've known of.

One notes he also didn't help at all with the question - while the other poster helped while pointing out the lack of google zen.

That's besides the point. The question that got deleted could be off value as to give someone else the answer without having to ask the question. I doubt that the OP is worried about his reputation points. There is a saying: there are no stupid questions only stupid answers. Don't fully agree with it but haven't found anything better to act on (while in Q/A).

I've just asked him why he feels it's necessary to tell people how he voted? Thinking about it, this is a complete waste of time, and is a practice we could all probably do without - I've been as guilty as anyone and thinking about it, it seems to be just that little bit arrogant. It's as though I've been saying "Now that you know that it is I who voted 5 for you little person, your whole existence has been validated".

Is that it all finished now and you are just waiting for results etc? Are you a broken man? I was watching the latest video from the judges (the one where the gadge fell over) and it sounds like a few folks had issues with the hardware api's particularly around the gaze tracking. Having a dig at your post length and verbosity as well, the cheek! Are you going to be entering the App Innovation 2 this year?

Yup, just waiting for the results. It's been a blast coding this one - the app is a long way from finished. Now that the contest is over, there's so much that I need to do to it to make it a production grade application. It's heavily skewed towards the PerC side. This has led to a few opportunities with Intel, and I'm just looking at writing some stuff with them about their cloud services. They are being really great about giving me access to people and teams who wrote this stuff, so I have a lot of stuff to work with. The PerC SDK is not up to scratch right now, my last post detailed a lot about the areas where there are weaknesses. The really great thing is that Intel are listening to us, they have asked us to join their PerC advisory board to help shape the product, try out the enhancements and provided feedback. If there's an App Innovation 2, then I'll probably be entering it - I also have some other PerC stuff I want to work on, this time purely for Code Project.

I had the interview about 10 days ago, still waiting to see the final content, not sure when it is being published. I bet his obituary will be a riot.

I do tire of his little "my way is better - please read it" notes...and the way that QA goes grey once he starts responding for the day.

They are the reason I originally stopped answering in QA. It got to the point where I really blew up at him and his spamming the answers. Funnily enough, he didn't respond to that comment. The thing is - people don't want to be told, "oh, you shouldn't be doing it that way because your requirements are stupid". They probably already know that they are stupid, but if that's what they have to deliver then that's what they have to deliver (when I put this argument to him, he told me that he'd either do it his way anyway or drop the client for coming up with stupid requirements). Argh. I'm bitching about him behind his back and that's wrong. I haven't said anything here that I haven't told him straight, but I don't want to pick on him sneakily.

It's cool - you're not saying anything you haven't said to him directly. It's just nice to know I'm not the only one who gets a little fed up with his attitude. It's a pity, because he does know a lot, and he could be a real asset if he notched the attitude down a few levels. Gripe OTD is over! Now, where are those damn tree surgeons? They were supposed to be here half an hour ago...
