Which is why, if QI is to be believed, it's not taught anymore - there are more exceptions than words that fit the rule
C# has already designed away most of the tedium of C++.

The most useless rule I ever heard at school. I before E except after C. [Sometimes missed] and when the sound is "EE" [Almost never heard] and not when your name is Keith. Or any of the other words that break the rule.

Here's an incomplete list of things taught in school: - you can't subtract a bigger number from a smaller one. - if you do it anyway, you can't take the square root of that. - all numbers can be written as a ratio between integers. - fallow deer grow up to be moose. - ponies grow up to be horses. - ladybugs gain a black dot every year they live. - various spelling- and grammar rules, all of which have so many exceptions that they're essentially useless.

Even into college they try to ignore imaginary numbers. Like "find all the real roots of this function", why stop there, I can find the complex ones too... :doh:

It seems to be happening suspiciously more often than I would expect based on random stupidity. How do they all come to that conclusion? Did they go to the beach, take a bucket of water out of the sea, and go "nope, there are definitely no Hammerhead Sharks in there" or something?

You've not worked in a school. Teacher: 0. not quite bright enough to the job they qualified for at uni(majority) 1. Bright but feckless and sloped into it by default (minority) 2. Actually wanted to teach and good at it, nomally through a misplaced moral sense. (very rare) At least in the UK.

You've not worked in a school. Teacher: 0. not quite bright enough to the job they qualified for at uni(majority) 1. Bright but feckless and sloped into it by default (minority) 2. Actually wanted to teach and good at it, nomally through a misplaced moral sense. (very rare) At least in the UK.
