Is anyone else insanely excited to see what MS says about the next XBox? Live feed will be at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/[^] around 1PM ET for anyone interested. Latest rumor is that production is already in place and they will likely announce a much earlier release than previously expected. From a marketing stand point it would be genius (if the engineering is solid). Sony would drop their jaw and be hands up in the air. MS would get initial sales prior to XMas rush funding a potential drop in price during the XMas rush. This would also get the shelves stocked ahead of time for their "place" in the stores giving them significant advantages over Sony for the Holiday rushes. Of course everything is just rumors until noon (noon here for me)... OH THE ANTICIPATION!

"Unfortunate" is having a hardware problem and introducing a temporary fix which moves the problem out of the warranty period instead of actually fixing it. Because it annoys your user base to the point where some of them go "elephant you, and the console you rode in on". What did I do? Went back to PC gaming. Which means MS don't get their cut of games revenue either. Fine by me.

That is where I have been the last 5 years (er really 10). I have a pretty sweet system that I built about 4 years ago and it is still able to chew up just about anything I throw at it. Pretty soon I will need to get a new Graphics card, but I can manage a while yet. The last "state of the art" console I bought was arguably either the PlayStation or N64. The N64 I bought shortly after it came out but the playstation I had waited on until FF7 was released (bought it for that). All others since then I either skipped or waited until they were significantly reduced in price and had 1000s of titles to choose from. Since then however consoles have become multi purpose. They are now full blown media centers. I believe the new XBox (as was the 360) will be a shinning example of this. In that sense I have been missing out. There are definately some games I have missed out on, but I have gotten my game kick from the PC successfully for many years. As of late the game Dev on the PCs is somewhat lacking. Once in a while there are good titles with great potential. Then release comes and I must curse the development team for releasing such shart. Weekly patches and broken DRMs end up ticking me off and cursing their entire company. U-Play is now on my blacklist because of this. This does not happen on the console. Games are solid. The HW can be glitchy in first gens... But maybe that was a then... Or maybe it is just a continual "buyer beware", if you push this system it will break (people that used PS2 for DVD players had high failures).

That was kind of what was running through my noggin as well. Some people just get set in their ways though. This community had no excitement towards WinRT as well. Granted that OS is doing horrible it still is another venue to unleash your power on. While I tend to have the "Oooo shiny" personality, I am able to contain myself and not go out and get every new gadget. Seems around here there are numerous of the opposite as in "Meh... whats the point? A new system will come out in another 7 years and I will just have to learn it all over again"

That was about when I was getting interested in the Xbox system. I even got the approval from the Mrs to purchase one. At the time however my son was beginning to strive for attention and we had another little one on the way so it did not make much since. So being the smart feller that I am I said to the Mrs. how bout I just wait till the next system(s) comes out and then pick one of those. Technically I got the approval for this one already (but unfortunately that is not how things work).

Speculation has been (and is becoming apparent as I am watching live now) that the new Xbox will unify the hodge podge of system we all have. Other things I am excited about are what they have done to their remarkable Kinect system. It revolutionized the interface and I am quite excited to see the next gen of it. [EDIT] OMG Halo TV series!!!

An industry as big as home consoles alone is enough to be excited... But in the last 5 years the console has become the center stage of the Home Theatre. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Now if only MS reduce their barriers to entry for people looking to develop for this platform, you could really get an interesting TV/Phone/Tablet/PC combination going on. Oh, and look, it's available to show - take that Sony.

Yes somewhat. Mostly Sci Fi dramas though and they are often lacking. Occasionally we get a good one and then it gets canned before it is even formed *cough* Firefly *cough* The more Sci Fi dramas that get push the more likely some stick and give me could entertainment for when I find the time. I hate hitting up netflix and seeing what were great potentials and then died before they even hit season 2.

I have really been hoping for that. Been poking and prodding the evangulists etc. and they are all doped up pretty good with Kool-Aid and partially lobotomized to not reveal the big plan.... But it seems that is their plan. Of course having a plan and it actually working are 2 entirely different things.

Same here. Crazy how they have changed over the years. I have been tuned out of consoles for a while because Sports games became the main driver (and still are). I have always enjoyed Strategy games more. FPS are nice but also not what I really crave. I have to say Call of Duty could make me an addict though Especially what I am seeing that have done for Ghost.

It certainly seems to be moving the XBox away from being a games console to more of a home entertainment hub. That puts it at an advantage, in this space, over the likes of Apple and Google. They have a headstart in this space, which has to serve them well.
