A question just appeared, which basically sums up to "I want to use C# to start my computer at a specified date and time" I'm not suggesting in any way that you should go and abuse him - please don't - but am I getting too old for this? Do they not teach people that computers don't run software when the power is off anymore? Banging your head on a desk is wonderful; it feels so good when you stop...

It has to be worth the effort of replying, question on that level need to be ignored, not even worth abusing the idiot, just let them fade in obscurity. Having said that catch me on a particularly crappy Monday and I'll happily beat them with my sarcasm stick! Never underestimate the power of human stupidity RAH

I want to use C# to shutdown the computer at a specified date and time in the past, Is it possible or do I have to use CPP for such things?

You need to use T++ to use the Tachyon class and affect past events.

It can be done. Pretty simple. See sharply and concentrate on teh computer. Then, use your internal positive energy to channel external negative energy towards computer. Wait till eternity and it will be done.

Great tnx Griffy, I've downloaded the cTachReverseulator dll v3.4.6. The code seems to be working but I get this exception: "Access denied while trying to shift global Datetime. Now, reason: Insufficient read/write permissions to specific time point." But I am an admin! :sigh: Do you know if there's a coming GA or a patch?

The question is not as stupid as it seems, since you can do it over LAN (assuming that the computer has a power connection and the PSU is capable of having a standby mode, which then still powers the ethernet card). This technology is not new and is called "Wake-on-LAN". It just requires an ethernet connection with APM or ACPI being available on the main board and the eth. card. What one could do is either programming some timer on a router (very popular choice) or building a custom solution, which then uses some other computer on the network or involves a micro-controller.

There is also a way to schedule power ON/OFF through BIOS settings. (under Power Management) It's been there for a very long time. :)

Some industrial PC's include hardware that let you shutdown the machine and then restart at a later time, either based on time-of-day or after an interval. They can also start based on I/O or network signals. That said, I somehow doubt the Q&A question was based on that.

                                          Yeah, I wouldn't use C# for that, I'd use Visual Basic. :-D
