Question: Language Barrier
-
I recommend you ignore you duty.
As funny as that is, it's not about right, or wrong. It's about not being able to properly communicate, and these ARE people after all, ignoring people outright is a bit rude. More importantly, many of these conversations start out, somewhat normally, but, then quickly decay because they don't understand what you're saying. (So, start ignoring them the moment the conversation decays?)

One of the biggest issues I've had on this site, and others, is with people who don't natively speak English. Some of them are very nice, and cool people. However, some of them, like to argue with you, despite barely being able to understand you. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind foreigners, however, I do mind the people in question, the ones who will blindly attack me, when in reality, it's their own fault. To clarify, I wouldn't go to a Japanese forum, and argue with people in Japanese, because, I don't properly understand the language, and a debate of any kind requires understanding. (As do conversations in general.) Do, you see where I'm coming from? I just don't understand the logic of these people, are they just stupid, international trolls, I don't know. ? I would almost suggest they stick to forums that cater to their own language, at least until they get a better grip on the English language, and can have rational conversations. And okay, let's say they do come to an English speaking forum, and haven't quite mastered the language, well, perhaps they should avoid debates until they can understand what's going on a bit better. Am I wrong here? Should I be more patient? Should I ignore them when they act up? I've been arguing with them, but it seems to go nowhere, but, if you do nothing, then, they're not going to learn, or stop. (Can I report this behavior?) What do you guys think?
In general be patient. There are some pretty awesome non-English speakers on here. FFS, them Geordies need someone to listen to them.

U American plz stop critizing my peoples English when it is your country fault for not sending enough aid this year to fund our nuclear program the teachings of English in our schools. The problem is so bad that next year we will be as bad as fRance for illitracy in English amongst our teachers. I think a little context might be helpful for people to understand it completely. A link to the relevant discussion, please?

People don't come here because it is an english speaking forum to argue with commonwealth natives... They come here because it an international website with 10 million members and they have a chance to discuss with some peers. If the "foreigners" (I guess you know you are also someone's foreigner...) could get that in their native language they would probably not bother you here. BTW why don't you stick to a local forum of your own ??

Sounds about right. You don't need to ignore them outright. You can always say, "I'm going to agree to disagree." Or, "I don't think we're getting anywhere, so I'm not discussing this any further." Or whatever is appropriate for the situation. If they demand a reply from you, they are being rude, so don't feel too bad about continuing to ignore them. As they say, "you can speak your mind, just not on my time."

Well, according alexa [^] , codeproject should be in Hindi; and we (non-hindi speaking) would be the ones that does not properly speak "native". Seriously, people have different way of interacting with other people, sometimes, it seems they are arguing, but they are just having a normal discussion, and the difference in language makes it more "argumentative" than it really is.

See, this is what I'm talking about. No one criticized your people, and for that matter who the f*ck are you? As for needing aid, who doesn't, the world isn't perfect, everyone just does their best to get by, you aren't as special as you seem to think you are. I'm sorry, but, I've lived a pretty tough life myself, I've been homeless, isolated, hungry, etc,. (I'm honestly, about a year away from stuffing a gun in mouth and pulling the trigger, so, really, f*ck you.)

I got really, really pissed off once with a non English speaker who accused me of using the wrong word in something irreverent. Even after others said the word I had used was correct, if a little obscure in the way I had used it, he still insisted I had used the wrong word just because he had never used it like that.

FYI, Hindi is not the common language of India. Hindi is not synonymous with India. In fact, the Hindi-speaking belt has the largest number of illiterates in India and produces the vast number of unskilled labor. They are NOT the people who are reading Codeproject.

It's the Dunning-Kruger effect[^]; a lot of the time they don't realize how poor their English actually is.

How does that make me a snob? It's rude to argue with people in a language you don't understand. So, if I went to a Japanese forum, and acted like a complete jerk, it's okay, because I'm foreign? Please.
I suppose native English-speakers here is a minority. So, what is rude? If you think that someone doesn't understand you, tell this, try to explain in more simple language, or just end the discussion. Exactly as anyone does so in local forums.
