    Is Peter Capaldi.

I checked his IMDB Filmography. In World War Z, he played a W.H.O. Doctor! Obviously a time loop.

You might also have seen him play Caecilius in the Dr Who episode, The Fires Of Pompeii. That episode had lots of in jokes for those of us who studied Latin at school.

I can honestly say that prior to the announcement on the BBC website I had never heard of him. I only know of one Capaldi and that's Jim of Traffic.

The Grauniad? X| No. I've only bought two or three Sunday papers in the last two years and both were recent purchases to read the British Lions match reviews against the Ockers! The papers were the Sunday Times and then only because they have a good reputation for their sports coverage and especially (to me) their rugby coverage is very good. As for TV, I like the well-polished dramas and occasional documentary that Auntie produces but 90% of my viewing is the morning news when I'm scoffing porridge or getting ready to go to work. :)

And once again, Bernard Cribbins appears on the BBC talking about his appearances on new-Who, and the history of the show in general, and makes no mention of his previous connection[^] to the show. I'm starting to think he's got Alzheimer's and forgotten it.

Oh, don't go into the canon of whether the films count as Dr Who or not - if they do, then the assertion that this is the 12th incarnation is wrong (ignoring various Comic Relief versions, and also the Richard E Grant appearance as the Doctor).

Well, I can sort-of see the argument - the Peter Cushing films were film versions of episodes from the TV show, whereas the McGann film wasn't. It's more the fact that I would expect any discussion of the history of the show which includes Bernard Cribbins to mention his appearance in the film. You don't have to accept it as part of the canon to include it in the show's history!

Indeed they were, except for the fundamental canonical flaws. For instance, his surname is given as Who in the films - plus, he claims to be the inventor of TARDIS.

I guess the films were made before the Doctor's origins had been revealed, so they just made something up that turned out to be wrong. And yes, hearing Roy Castle say, "Hello, Dr Who!" still makes me want to hit him!
