I think its only Apple that use a specific charger. I have a Nokia Lumia running Windows 7.8 and it uses a mini USB charger

Yeah. I believe most manufacturers are using Mini or Micro USB. So were at least down to two (excluding apple for minding its own business)

Samsung uses proprietary as well. Looks like mini USB, but is not.

My GS3 uses a generic charger, but my TAB2 is a OEM.

A friend sent me this today: http://youtu.be/9CCGUMkcbjg[^] pretty cool! I was wondering, when will our android device use heat of our hands to recharge it's battery?

Sounds like those self-winding watches (that break all the time).

Yep, excuse my generalization: I was relying on Galaxy1, GalaxyMini, Tab1. But I reckon I am living in the past. Anyway, good news that they change it !

My Samsung Epic 4G (Galaxy S) works fine with any mini-USB charger I've found so far. So do all of the other Samsung phones I've seen in use by friends.

I heard a rumour that induction charging is being resisted (no pun intended) by the phone manufacturers because it would be a generic charger that could do it, so they could not charge a premium for their chargers. (J'Accuse Pomme)

That doesn't make sense when the majority of moby makers agreed to standardise on the mini-usb to do away with the need to have lots of different chargers.

Yes, because they were forced to by the EU. However the EU has not forced the Induction Charge Ubiquity through yet, so they are holding out for as long as possible in order to develop dissimilar standards in order to make money.

But... but... I thought you were against the evil EU autocrats who force people and companies to do things against the spirit of the free market  Could it be... that CP's unofficial #1 EU-phobe is now feeling a smattering of gratitude towards the EU? :~
