Dettol ? Is this some kind of cleaning product (google says so)? Define "proper" coffee please

Coffee that doesn't have any tea leaves or perfume in it, like that Earl Whatzit stuff does.

To add to Marks answer, it comes from a bean, not a jar, and has not been messed with to reduce the caffeine levels in any way.

The one I make! At least 1 spoon of coffee for each small cup of water. Add a very small amount of chicory. Use a decent percolator, no instant stuff. No cream, no sugar. I use grounded coffee from Douwe Egberts, but I can grind my own stuff. Apperantly the real good coffee beans have moved through the digestive system of a cat ... ;P (but I have never tasted that, pretty expensive and not found in the average pub.)

Very popular in French speaking countries. I don't like it myself, I think it adds too much of a bitter note.

When I do drink tea, it's always straight from China (usually either Pu-Erh or LongJing) -- none of that English "we finally find out what plant it is, so let's grow it in India and process it in five minutes through a crappy factory, rather than treat it with respect!" rubbish. You are aware that Earl Grey was invented by someone who realised that the English-style tea was disgusting, so added some of his wife's perfume to it, to smother the horrible flavour? Teas with added perfume or fruit extract may have a place in the world, but my cup ain't that place.

Oooh, where to start? Australian wine is (on average) better than French wine. Some French wines are superb, but the quality varies far, far too much. The food in Britain can be (surprisingly) better than in France - not always, but it can. The range is certainly a whole lot better. French coffee isn't actually very good - it has too much chicory, and is frequently over roasted. That should start a small war!

Say what? I've been to both countries (sic) as a visitor to both and consider this statement as heresy and/or nonsense.

This part may be true, in that British food is so terrible that the good restaurants are run by people from other countries.
