Is for me - when I left school and went to Uni, I didn't even own a calculator! (I did own two slide rules though, and I think I still have both of them)

247 - how many have you got left? You do the maths! ;P

10/01 no calculator. If you thought you needed one you've either completely forgotten how to do basic math; or missed the easy way to do some of the problems.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies. -- Sarah Hoyt

He needs 9 hours, must be back at 8PM = 20:00. SO he has to leave at 11:00am.

All in my head - the footsteps one nearly had me check the calculator - but 225 * 4 = 900 so it was a question of a stride being 0.4cm or 40cm... :-D

That's the only one I got wrong, as I missed the "in cm" bit at the end. Not really math, more reading. Iain.

Sweet. 100%. I guess I'm also brighter than BoJo[^].
Being "Brighter than BoJo" is akin to being "Better looking than SuBo"* - a feet most can attain and a point of embarrassment should you fail. * I was going to say "Less Promiscuous Than Paris", but no-one fails that test.

The answer for question 2 (answer: 20) is questionable. How can the exact minutes be determined using an average speed?

You don't get jokes either?

I'm getting too old to think of that: I just refused to do 900000 / 22500 in my head!

Why would that be questionable? How do you think the speedometer calculated the average speed? Obviously it took the total 6 km and divided it by the total time of 1/3 hour to arrive at 18 km/h.
The good thing about pessimism is, that you are always either right or pleasently surprised.

I was fine until the car questions. I'm behind a websense firewall and couldn't see the picture (I assume there was a picture) so had to guess those!
Nope, no picture, just a table - the same table for two "car" questions
