What is a good year for VS?

2013! Most loved Feature - I can code while i debug my 64bit Programm! in 2012 the Debugger said: "The F are you doing mate? You can't Code while Debugging! Start from the beginning and try again:suss:"
if(this.signature != "") { MessageBox.Show("This is my signature: " + Environment.NewLine + signature); } else { MessageBox.Show("404-Signature not found"); }
A feature long overdue!

Both are stable as much as Microsoft product can be. If you will use it for web 2013 has some additions that can help you, otherwise no big differences. In fact 2013 is not more than a 2012 patch, made into separate version because of Microsoft policy - new .NET framework === .NEW VS version!
I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is. (V)
actually, there's no new framework version involved. The reason for a full new product is the breaking changes on the asp.net projects. 2012 can open and compile the project, but you don't get intellisense nor any specific features, such as add controller on mvc 5 projects. They also needed to launch a new c++ compiler.

Vintage 2012 was a tad towards strongly tannic, but, for many, that was balanced by the subtle dandelion-chaff on-the-wing overtones, the top-note of decaying sphagnum moss, and the poignant apres-bouquet of sweaty en flagrante delicto. There are those who claimed they could detect a faint nose of sulphur in its crashes, but we are unable to remember that. Vintage 2013 definitely moves toward the floral side of the spectrum with its fizz-pop-bang of crackling carbonic acid release as it teases you with never quite being "ready," and lighter body, its strange top-note of summer athletic socks worn too many times, and its vivid lingering aroma that some liken to Romanian gymnasts fallen from parallel bars, or left-over Scottish haggis. May we suggest you taste both, without swallowing ? à chacun son goût

I know its not one of your choices but I say 2010 just because I prefer the IDE versus the new. Although I generate my released applications in 2012 but that I do via the command line.

Visual Studio 2013 is mostly better than 2012, only a few negatives I have found: 1. Seems to have issues with creating new MVC4 projects (for me anyway, option is there but they don't build). MVC5 is better anyway, but something to watch out for 2. No ReSharper 7, have to use 8 which means a new license (if you use ReSharper) 3. No Visual SVN 3.5 or older, have to use 4. Maybe none of those affect you, that's what I've found anyway!
Well fads they come and fads they go. And God I love that rock and roll! Well the point was fast but it was too blunt to miss. Life handed us a paycheck, we said, "We worked harder than this!"

I'd recommend 2013 - some of the new features are worth it. See the Jolt awards in Insider News today for details.

When it comes to most Microsoft things nowadays (ribbon bar, WPF, VS2010/12/13, W8, etc) sadly I think that swallowing without tasting delivers a less sour experience, at least initially. Regardless of one's approach though, you'll still suffer from indigestion. Marc

I'm actually just considering this question myself... I'll be updating from VS2008. With their new development cycle, it's going to be hard to keep up with their releases (seem to remember some indication that they were pushing for one release per year).

For example SQL Server Compact Edition support is gone in 2013 so be careful with legacy projects.

I bet there's a joke in there about vintage and whether VS has legs or an oakey finish, but I'm too tired to come up with it. Probably already in the thread anyway, I didn't read all the responses. To answer Nagy's question, I'm on 2010, so can't give an opinion about 12 vs 13.
