Yes, see the two up votes? That means Tom and at least one other solved it. However the answer is INITIAL MOVE

Best I could do after a late night ... Accountants initially need understand money but eventually remuneration creeps relentlessly up. New Cardington Hangars expansion rewards significantly! (6, 9)

A spoonerism[^] is to swap parts of a pair of words or phrase, often the leading letters

I have a particular attraction to spoonerism[^] and malapropism[^]. When I was younger (a long time ago) a friend of my Dad would have us in fits of laughter with his mixing up of words. He would take parts of two words that sort of meant what he wanted to say and merge them together to make a completely new word. We called them Dudleyisms in his honour.

I know it's long after the race and the result is now posted but I actually looked at INITIAL MOVE because all chess games obviously have one but I didn't see the Spooner connection. If I'd visualised it as INITIAL move instead I'd have completed answer and solution. Another time maybe.

If there is one thing more dangerous than getting between a bear and her cubs it's getting between my wife and her chocolate.

Unfortunately, the fact that Tom solves it does not help other much about the answer.
