Yeah, I started adding a rider that he wasn't allowed to enter, but then decided against it. He is certainly setting the standard, in the whole world someone must be able to beat him.

Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

Surely you can't think it is *that* interesting, it is just a lump of steel in the middle of sea where a bunch of men and a few women swear and shout at each other all day.

It's the raw untamed majesty of the ocean, the danger of the commute, the ferocity of the weather, that makes it interesting. And the massive office full of snacks.

Besides, I miss being allowed to swear at people whilst at work. Giz a job.

Who works somewhere interesting? Somewhere fun? I don't mean the office or building, but the general area, what is within walking distance, what you have to travel through morning and evening. This part of the world is so damn insipid, getting to work is tedious and uninspiring. Going for a lunchtime walk down the canal and counting submerged supermarket trolleys doesn't exactly set you up for the afternoon. So what is so great, or not so great, about where you work? Pictures of the view out of your window would help. View from the window closest to me[^]. I live about 16 miles in that general direction. not sure if the link will work, Dropbox blocked at work so typed in link generated from phone

It's not the most interesting in the world, but there is a bit of nature around: some trees, a stream, a pond or two, ducks, stray cats, squirrels, two owls that seem to have a handful of trees they favour. Whenever I walk past the owls' trees, I try to see if I can spot them.

What is this talk of release? I do not release software. My software escapes leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

Last year, I was on the 12th floor of a building 5 blocks from the Mississippi river. It had a partial view of the St. Louis Arch. It was a 5 minute walk down to the arch with great people watching. Here is the river flooded at the arch[^]. I traded the view of the river for a 2 mile commute from home. Now the only interesting thing is when I occasionally ride my unicycle to work. Hogan

For about 4 years I worked in the old Daily Express building on Fleet Street and would get the tube to St. Pauls which meant I walked past St. Paul's Cathedral and down Ludgate Hill and up to Fleet Street. Never went inside the cathedral! :-( I also worked in the Northern & Shell building on Lower Thames Street. The company had another building next door to the Tower of London (400 yards from the N&S building) and had their own jetty on the Thames where you could sit and eat your lunch when the weather was nice.

Last training course I went on was in London and I got us into the Tower Hotel, this was basically the view from my room[^] (without the couple, it wasn't that sort of week). The training was in Tabernacle Street so the walk was past the Tower, across to the Bank of England, then up Moorgate. Very nice in the summer.

That hotel used to do an all-you-can-eat buffet (a loooong time ago). I recall eating so much that I was sick. Felt better after that so went back and had some more! Ah, those were the days! :)

The buffet style breakfast was immense. Hence the need to walk to the training rather than getting the tube.

On a research park within a nature reserve on the fens. My lunchtime routine consists of a half hour walk around the nature reserve – I couldn't really ask for anything else. …and it’s an 18 minute drive from home against the traffic(i.e. hardly any traffic)

Who works somewhere interesting? Somewhere fun? I don't mean the office or building, but the general area, what is within walking distance, what you have to travel through morning and evening. This part of the world is so damn insipid, getting to work is tedious and uninspiring. Two words: Cotton fields. On the plus side, the dairy farm is gone.

You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.

Commuting is as boring here as anywhere however I am 10 minutes walk from here[^] and I have an annual pass! We also have an office block going up next door, watching the construction can be interesting for a while.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity RAH
