Who works somewhere interesting? Somewhere fun? I don't mean the office or building, but the general area, what is within walking distance, what you have to travel through morning and evening. This part of the world is so damn insipid, getting to work is tedious and uninspiring. Going for a lunchtime walk down the canal and counting submerged supermarket trolleys doesn't exactly set you up for the afternoon. So what is so great, or not so great, about where you work? It's not the most interesting in the world, but there is a bit of nature around: some trees, a stream, a pond or two, ducks, stray cats, squirrels, two owls that seem to have a handful of trees they favour. Whenever I walk past the owls' trees, I try to see if I can spot them.
What is this talk of release? I do not release software. My software escapes leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

Last year, I was on the 12th floor of a building 5 blocks from the Mississippi river. It had a partial view of the St. Louis Arch. It was a 5 minute walk down to the arch with great people watching. Here is the river flooded at the arch[^]. I traded the view of the river for a 2 mile commute from home. Now the only interesting thing is when I occasionally ride my unicycle to work. :laugh: Hogan

I am from Chennai India..My office is located very close to the beach..nice view from 7th floor of the building but the job is hectic and travel from my home to office n back is tedious...with all the traffic!!

For about 4 years I worked in the old Daily Express building on Fleet Street and would get the tube to St. Pauls which meant I walked past St. Paul's Cathedral and down Ludgate Hill and up to Fleet Street. Never went inside the cathedral! :-( I also worked in the Northern & Shell building on Lower Thames Street. The company had another building next door to the Tower of London (400 yards from the N&S building) and had their own jetty on the Thames where you could sit and eat your lunch when the weather was nice.

That hotel used to do an all-you-can-eat buffet (a loooong time ago). I recall eating so much that I was sick. Felt better after that so went back and had some more! Ah, those were the days! :)

I am one of the few lucky people who still have a job in Italy!! :D My office is in a little seaside town in an old nice building with paintings of ships from the renaissance on the ceiling (no kidding!!) BUT my boyfriend spent the last year looking for a job and I'm paying all the bills alone: we've been living with 1100 euros per month for almost ten months now... Thank you Italy :(

BUT my boyfriend spent the last year looking for a job and I'm paying all the bills alone: we've been living with 1100 euros per month for almost ten months now... Thank you Italy :(
Been there done that... :-) Well, not exactly in the tiny little town (Milano is slightly bigger then that) but more referring to payslip part ;-) Now, I am enjoying 'European Sillicon Valley' (as French use to say) here on Cote d'Azur. Environment is not bad. Time and space for lot of leisure activities during the lunch break, but if someone wants big town lights - he better get elsewhere.

Nice! I'd love to work in Cote d'Azur... Yes, one probably doesn't get all the amusements of the big city, but I wouldn't miss them. Is it true that French companies only hire you if you hold a master degree and won't accept a bachelor? Also, do you think it is important to speak French in order to get a job in software development in Cote d'Azur? I might try and look for some opportunity there...

Sucks. My wife has been struggling with poor health and although she technically has a job she has only been well enough to work for 9 weeks in the last two years so mine is the only salary. I'm getting real tired of having to live like that. I hope he finds something soon.
