Perhaps but if they use profit as a motivator they have to share the profit (so less for the persons in charge). I think profit is a bigger motivator than religion but the people on top use religion so they can keep the profit for themselves and don't have to share it. In the end it all comes down to either power or money, and very very few "religious leaders" who incite violence actually do it for the religion part.
Well thought out!

As much as everyone will agree on IS(IS) being the bad guys , Historically speaking "Bad Guys" are defined by the winning :-\ side and then embedded into
History
I don't like them because they would like to kill me, but that's just my personal taste.-- The trouble with people,
is that they want to hear only what they want to hear.I think the behaviour they have shown so far: kidnapping for ransom, beheading the innocent, attempted genocide, "change to our branch of Islam or die" options, and so forth does kinda indicate "bad guys" regardless of any other position on religion or other beliefs. Can you image what life would be like in a state rules by these guys? Regrettably, I can...
You looking for sympathy? You'll find it in the dictionary, between sympathomimetic and sympatric (Page 1788, if it helps)

I am not against any religion! That been said, why are terrorist trying to create "Islamic Caliphate" all around the world, killing innocent souls in the process? Boko Haram of Nigeria just declared creating one yesterday. ISIS in the middle east too!
Stranger yet, some assholes in countries not in the neighbourhood of where IS is operating are supporting them. They have nothing to gain, something to lose, and they still go out of their way to announce to the world that they support The Enemy. Please tell me that instantly gets you a VIP spot on a watchlist. It's the kind of crap that makes people vote for Wilders[^].

Harold if you think of it, they have a lot to gain. A war of culture has began and everyone tries to ignore that fact and handle it with the all-wrong "time will heal" algorithm. There is a rising power opposing much of what we take for granted. The war has started and one side is fast asleep they way I see it.

My question is more "what is religion?". My definition: religion appears to be a set of beliefs held by a large number of people usually based on some sort of faith in something that is not measurable, using the 'scientific method', and that generally contains ideas that are held as taboo to question within and about the particular religion. Given my definition, it seems fairly easy to then manipulate a large number of people to do something they would not do outside of this group/collective belief system.

And with that being said, understand then the frustration of people that have a belief system that DOES encourage thought, discussion and dialogue being continually lumped into 'religion'. If the adherants say, "It's not about religion" they are ridiculed further...

As far as I am concerned as long as people hold themselves to the golden rule, as much as possible, I don't particularly care what set of beliefs they hold.

Yea no, not so much. See UKIP, Wilders, Le Pen, etc Sure they're not winning yet, but it's not like they have no support.

You know I was wondering there is so much religion involved in war? I guess it's easy to make people angry with religion perhaps? And also it's a more powerful motivator than mere profit?

That's completely wrong ! Stop writing nonsense about religion ! Religion DOES NOT make angry.

Imagine you and your immediate family owned a country that produced 11 million barrels of oil a day. Imagine you noticed that every time there was a terrorist news story the unit cost went up a few dollars. There is no need to invoke sky fairies. This is about greed.
