This stump is a conglomeration of multiple trunks that grew together. I am a part time weekend "gardener" and from time I have these tasks. I went to price a Stihl with a 36inch bar and couldn't believe the price. What size saw, bar and make do you use and for what types of tasks.
Best bet would be to rent one.
New version: WinHeist Version 2.1.0 Beta Have you ever just looked at someone and knew the wheel was turning but the hamster was dead? Trying to understand the behavior of some people is like trying to smell the color 9. I'm not crazy, my reality is just different than yours! Not my circus not my monkey's!

Thanks for reply, The problem is, it's $80 bucks to rent one with a 20inch bar (can't rent one much bigger) and it is usually in questionable operational state when I rent it, and I have needed one several times.
Only options are rent, borrow, buy or steal. :)

Create your own is another option.
You can lead a developer to CodeProject, but you can't make them think. The Theory of Gravity was invented for the sole purpose of distracting you from investigating the scientific fact that the Earth sucks.

The only reason I left that out are there are not to many people that know how to make on. I thought about it though! I worked with an Electrical Eng. a long time ago that took me to his Dad's basement workshop where he made combustion engines from scratch, I was amazed.

Personally, I find it easier just to use my replicator and create as many as I like. :-D

Rent the 20" if you can and get a little creative whichever saw you end up using. It's possible to cut through 3' of trunk with a smaller saw. You just have to do it in small wedges and account for the tree leaning into the cut the deeper you go. Don't even think of trying to cut the entire front wedge all at once. On any one cut don't go deeper than half the width of the bar. This will help minimize the tree "grabbing" the bar and help you get the saw back out of the tree if it does. I cut a couple of 3' trees with an 16" saw. It took me about and hour to do each one, not counting the problem I had on the first tree. I got the saw trapped hard and had to use a come-along between to the two trees to get the saw out. The second one went much smoother.

You might be able to get a longer bar and chain, for your current saw.

Know anybody with one of these? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f6/JCB\_3CX\_Backhoe\_loader.jpg Have seen this done. And have driven a few tons of the output down to the dump and back with little or no sweat generated in the process.
