...and I'm very happy with it! It's basically a completely free amalgamation of all their Express editions, with full plugin and add-in support. One of the first things I've done is install Visual Studio Tools for Apache Cordova[^]. Wicked stuff. [Edit] For those wondering what Visual Studio Community Edition[^] is [\Edit]

I would also like to add my irony-free compliments.

I checked it - I can say it's more like a professional edition - for free... A great step from Microsoft - the second in a month - toward the development community...

Hi, I'm glad it's working for you ! Isn't there some difference in functionality, or limits, with the Community edition compared to a purchased VS 2013 Pro ? thanks, Bill

Hi Bill I'd been wondering the same? "Is it just a less restricted version of Express". But Microsoft themselves have confirmed it's basically "Professional". To quote: "Q: How does Visual Studio Community 2013 compare to other Visual Studio editions? A: Visual Studio Community 2013 includes all the great functionality of Visual Studio Professional 2013, designed and optimized for individual developers, students, open source contributors, and small teams." Look at the Q&A section on: http://www.visualstudio.com/products/visual-studio-community-vs[^]

It's software they used to charge for that is now being given away. I'm sure you can find something negative about it if you want. It's also missing load testing tools, code diagrams, all the architect tools, etc.

does that mean I can ditch VS2013 epxpress editions for Windows,Web And Desktop after installing this community edition !!? If yes, that's really great stuff..

                Thanks, Milind

Probably only for home or FOSS use; if your business is larger or has more than a handful of devs you'll still need to pay for MSDN. http://www.visualstudio.com/products/visual-studio-community-vs[^]

Wow !! Any hiccups/ issues? I have just installed VS2013 express for Web and Desktop on new laptop and haven't started using it. Shall I be uninstalling other express editions first and then install this community ?

                    Thanks, Milind

Only problem I have with it is that .Net 5 is not included.

The individual free Express versions didn't include the optimizer, nor the ability to use IDE addins. I don't know if that's still the case with this community version. Even if they don't include that stuff, its still great to hear that they did this.
