You have to unwire the switch and take it apart to fit the new cord. Putting it back together properly is proving a challenge, I finally got it sounding like it works properly, just no effect on the darkness levels.

I'm 6'2", if there was any of the old cord hanging out then it wouldn't be an issue at all, but it was looped through the switch, so the pull that snapped it also pulled the remains out.

Apparently one of your strong points is impressing people you hardly know with your brilliant displays of taste and tact. I'm not anxious to see where your weaknesses lie. At least you have a talent for writing an entirely accurate Subject line; some newbies have trouble with that. Then again, perhaps you just got lucky this time.

Not me, the pull cord snapped off my bathroom light switch last Tuesday and I still haven't got it working again yet. If I'm honest I regret not spending the extra pound to buy a whole new switch rather than just a new cord.

The excessive elision not only makes it ineloquent (by crunching two clauses into what looks like one), but leaves it open for misinterpretation, because "just almost" looks like a weird ESL-induced tautology. I know that F-grade, arrogant style guides written by academics who don't have a clue what they're talking about say that you should use as few words as possible*, but you should never omit any word that is necessary for the reader's comprehension of the meaning. "It's just that almost all of you..." * A genuinely useful rule would be "Use the right number of words"

I certainly hypothesize that you may be much more smart than I am; but, I'm afraid that, in itself, does not make you special, because I consider trying to operate as if that hypothesis is true for everyone to be one of the few sure ways I can improve whatever smidgen of intelligence I might have. Yet, I also think many people are smart enough to masquerade as much smarter than they actually are (fooling themselves, as well as others); I think the instant-access to almost all information on the Internet is a particularly valuable tool for maintaining a pretense of intelligence, simulating being informed. Sure works for me :) But, clearly, you are not one who masquerades as any kind of intelligence :) cheers, Bill
