Do the soldiers on the ground really believe in this fight? I mean, what if I was one of them and when the order came to ship out what would happen if I said "No, this is not a just war, I will be fighting only because you ordered me to, not because I believe in the cause." I know most of the soldiers are career chaps and not conscripts. But that does not mean each and every one or even a majority believe in the war. I guess though if you make your career the army, navy or airforce that you also take on the burden of trusting in your commander in chief.

The guys that I have talked to, and the experience I have had is that people in the military feel very strongly that they are protecting their country. We all took oaths to "protect and defend" the United States and most of the people take that seriously. A lot of the people who enter the military do so to have a job, but at the same time you know that you have another purpose. I would say that the vast majority of the US military supports this effort. I have heard of people who joined up just because of 9/11. A Royal Air Force plane is listed as missing after a US Patriot missile hit it. "I can confirm that the British plane was hit by a Patriot," a US Central Command official said here. "The crew is missing." The official, who asked not to be named, gave no more details. A Ministry of Defence official in London earlier said the plane was missing after an operational mission and "might have been engaged by a US-operated Patriot missile battery near the Kuwaiti border". Report...[^] Recently so many mistakes happening in this war.. X| Don't  and drive.

I thought the Patriot's had an internal FoF (Firend or Foe) system to avoid that. I bet a VBer has a job at Raytheon. Regardz Colin J Davies

I heard years ago that many pilots prefer to turn off their IFF transponders while in hostile territory. It will be interesting to learn if that was the case here... Ancient man conquered his rivals with the jawbone of an ass; modern man uses the jawbone of a politician.

But the coalition didn't interviewed the Iraqi POW on TV. Shah Shehpori wrote: Then just go to cnn.com and make yourself happy by reading one sided news. FYI, I hate CNN.com. I know the Al-Azeera is like CNN for the arabic world. My complain is about their rules of the game. I know that Iraqi TV interviewed the American POW, but Al-Azeera should have used better judgement in showing that tape to whole world. Don't  and drive.

Paul Watson wrote: You say you were a vet of Desert Strike. Were you in the thick of things? Yes, as much as you can be being on an aircraft carrier(USS Carl Vinson which is now in Korea, she is the best Carrier in the Pacific fleet, IMO). I was in Desert Strike which was in '96, most people get this confused with Desert Storm. We were only supposed to be in the Persian Gulf for 3 months, but we were extended another month. I was an AK, Aviational Storekeeper. My main job during West Pac(our 6 month cruise) was working a daily report called the "Suspense Report" we had two software applications for keeping track of the aircraft parts, alone with other supply materials, and ordering them. They both, in theory, were in sink(sink?) with eachother, but some transactions to did transfer over, then it would show up on my report. On hand balance is a major factor in keeping the planes flying, if things got to out of wack, the birds could be down for days, instead of operational. That West Pac we set a record for fewest "Off Ships" meaning, we didn't have to look elsewhere for parts we couldn't find onboard. Things we intense those 4 months, we were all doing our duties. I kind of miss it.:-D Later,

I must say I am amazed at how much you guys are following this war. Are you junkies or do you really care so much? FYI I am just curious. Not trying to come across as uncaring or a heartless bastard.

I was always more patriotic than political. Suffice it to say, I'd rather be bitch slapping someone than to bitch about someone. That's my nature, and I cannot or will not change that. However, when my brother became involved with this war, I've taken more of an interest in the political side of things because staying in touch with the events is all I can do. :| Jeremy Falcon

So are you going to blast CNN, Fox, and the other news channels who are showing Iraqi POWs on their broadcasts as well? All the channels, worldwide, want to gain popularity. It's called ratings. Do you want the Whitehouse to bomb Fox as well? Cheers The universe is driven by the complex interaction between three ingredients: matter, energy, and enlightened self-interest.
