Which keyboard key do you hit the most while using Visual Studio?
-
I was just thinking if anyone has analysed which keyboard key is used most while using Visaul Studio. Some of the candidates (IMO) are: "F5", "." (dot), "Tab", "Enter", "Space" I would like to exclude "Ctrl", "Shift" and "Alt" for obvious reasons (They mostly need to be pressed in combination of other keys). It would be fun to write a visual studio extension which can give me the stats about keyboard hits. :) I am not sure if it already exists.

All of them. I write code by repeatedly smashing the keyboard with a sledgehammer. This results in beautiful symphony of code that materializes out of the seeming chaos.

I type more alphabetic characters than any other, so a lexical analysis would be prudent before I considered which key I use most. It would likely be the letter used most often in English nouns and verbs, vs. the 'e' that occurs most frequently across all English words.

:) :) So, you are closing Visual Studio more often than doing anything in it.

Backspace
I remember the days when we had to call it the destructive backspace key, because that's the character it sends. So the world has become a less destructive place.

And then my keyboard keys would align so that I can easily type all I need with one hand and without losing productivity! The other hand I can use for uhhh... Using the mouse :D

I attempted to get some empirical data on this by installing a key logger on my bosses computer, at a financial institution. Can you send me a file in a cake please!

Since I use Tab to trigger Intellisense selection, I essentially end every word with it, which would probably make it the most common key.
