The same thing happened to me last week - twice, on totally innocuous messages. I didn't know that it was possible to downvote people in the lounge; the hamsters must really hate us. :sigh:

Send me a link to the message. I'm updating the reporting feature this week to remove some members' ability to report items. They can view, they can download, they can post, but they can't randomly slap people down anymore. Sick of it. [Edit: It's the same high-rep user who randomly reports items for no apparent reason. He's not at the level of "abuse", just annoying, seemingly whimsical, and not at all helpful. He's also my case study and Exhibit A as to why "don't put restrictions on members with rep greater than X" never works. High-rep members need checks and balances too.]

I don't care how many rep. points I accumulate, either. However, the only way to be "downvoted" in the Lounge is to have posts marked as spam/abuse. Too many of those could lead to banning from the site.

It's not that I'm bothered by the -16 points, but rather I'm amazed that I'm somehow downvoted when the downvote button is disabled. Of course if 'abuse' is the same as 'downvote' that would explain it.

16 points for one abuse vote means you have a high ranking stalker. Well, abuse vs. down vote is not exactly the same. If you accumulate enough abuse votes in a specified period of time you account will be blocked. This will actually be a blessing in disguise because you will be reinstated and the abusive abuse voter will be reprimanded by management, provided you posts were not abusive. A win-win situation. :-D

If you do that, then the narrow minded morons win. Do you want a lounge where you can laugh, think, and relax - or a lounge where the only jokes are the people who post? The only entertainment is the narrow set of "permitted ideas" that rigid mindsets can cope with? I know which I'd prefer. Yes, we have to have "standards" - but Chris has been pretty explicit as to what those are. And with the exception of spammers, and a couple of trolls I can't think of any posts this year which violated them (except some the UK election coverage)

Griff is right. I just voted it 5 and it didn't move that score much.
