I loaded up a pen drive with Linux mint and it worked first time on three out of four laptops i tested it on but crashes one laptop due to the wifi connection I thinks. So then i wanted to run some of my old .Net 4 code and was shocked to see my remote descktop that i wrote worked when using Linux and wine as the client and windows for the server "Wine" is a program for Linux that allowes some windows applications to work on a linux box ! Next up for testing was a DNS server I wrote for windows in .net 4 but it could not bind to UDP port 53 using "Wine" because Linux stops this on ports below 1024 so with my limited knowlage i tried running as 'su' and using Setcap on the .exe file but Wine would not have none of it and the program stil would not run. Next up i tried MonoDevelope that comes with it's own type of .net 4 framework and imported some C# code to bind to port 53 and this seemed to work but for some reason none of the break points worked in the program so it was hard going What i am saying is that you don't need to start from scratch if you do decide to jump ship over to linux which i am still thinking about doing

Wine is cool; used it to run World of Warcraft :)

Did you install the full mono-package? If you did not install the mono-debugger, then the breakpoints set in the IDE will be ignored.

Why is this in the soapbox? It could easily fit in the Lounge or at least the Linux[^] forum...

Decrease the belief in God, and you increase the numbers of those who wish to play at being God by being “society’s supervisors,” who deny the existence of divine standards, but are very serious about imposing their own standards on society.-Neal A. Because of all the rabid Windows fans out there? :)

Hmm, there may be some of that, but it's not Apple and since Microsoft is embracing Linux I don't think there'd be much of rabidness... Besides, it's about running Windows apps on another OS, so there's an element of Windows there anyway to soothe the fevered minds...
