How long before Windows Update FORCES a Win10 update, do you think? My money is on "Less than 3 months"... :~

They might have some legal issues with that. If memory serves, the Win7/8/8.1 licenses did not allow Microsoft to install whatever they wanted on the licensees' systems. Furthermore, I don't think a full O/S upgrade would come under the "important fixes" that most people allow to be installed automatically. If I were a lawyer (God forbid!), I'd love to prosecute the Class Action lawsuit for this! :evil grin:

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack. --Winston Churchill

It will be a pleasure taking your money from you. It never happened for any of the previous incarnations. Why should it for this one (especially now we've had the U2 debacle!)?

Because this is supposed to be the last version of Windows. I'm sure Microsoft will find it much easier to patch errors if everybody is using the same version...

I know you don't making it up :-) I only say that: 1. Microsoft never told so 2. We had something similar (and this time from Microsoft) with VS 2012, but nothing changed there 3. Windows is the most profitable product of Microsoft, and if the model described in that (and other) articles is true it will make it as much as 5 times expensive as today to have a running Windows OS - most people will not pay that prize...

You have a year to upgrade to 10 for free. If you still want it after that, then you'll have to pay for it. If MS was to force everybody to upgrade to it in "less than 3 months" from now, then there goes that revenue stream. Still wanna have that bet?

That's included in Windows 10! It looks a little different too; black background, off-white text, a flashing cursor; it's a real retro feel. To see the variables you have to type SET, to set them, also SET. NB: you can only expand it vertically though; horizontal expansion is still way beyond today's technology.

I am guessing a lot of people won't mind being moved away from Windows 8. I think it'd more interesting to see what will annoy people with Windows 10, considering how angry people got over the start menu disappearing in Windows 8.

I'm hoping they solved the issue of mice conflicting with tablet devices. 17 months later, I'm waiting for left-click to work. For the time being, it's point-mouse, left-click-tablet.

The difficult may take time, the impossible a little longer.

I know it's supposed to be a free upgrade, that's why we here in NZ have to pay $98 to upgrade our systems. Nothing is ever free.

Windows 8 was so bad that Windows 10 would have to suck all the air off the planet to be worse. This is being written on a Win 7 machine and after testing 10, 7 looks odd, not bad just odd. Bottom line 8 is so bad after testing 10 and then down loading it last night 10 looks good.

That is hilarious. Not for you, obviously, but to wait 17 months for the mouse to work is hilarious.

You just have to press windows + r, then type cmd in the little box that appears there and BOOM! There you have the black screen... xD

You just have to press windows + r, then type cmd in the little box that appears there and BOOM! There you have the black screen... xD

Hey, it's Microsoft we're talking about here. Make sure you've got an oxygen tank nearby!

Yay! This is the kind of improvement that users get excited about.. putting back features that they already had! But when, oh when, can I get a resizable environment variables window? I've been waiting for that feature since 1995.

Search for resize enable. It's somewhat of a hack but I know it works for the environment variables. I've been using it since the Win XP days.

It's a shame we have to resort to third party software to do this kind of thing. Ah well, I guess the guys at Microsoft have been busy for the last few years "designing" squares
