It's kind of sad though. Genuinely good companies with excellent jobs are ruined by plastering such nonsense phrases. Makes me facepalm at 100mph.

Is it just me or have others also started noticing unnerving amounts of "programming rockstar required" job posts? First of all, WHAT? Second of that, let's assume that there is such a thing as a "programming rockstar". And if there were that many programming rockstars around to fill these jobs, then they'd not be rockstars! They'd be just another set of developers. Oh and then the job posts say the candidate can be fresh college graduate or with "2-3 years of experience". Again, WHAT? What kind of rockstar is this? It's getting to a point where I am going to have to write a browser add-on that puts a big fat red STOP sign on a job post that mentions requirement of "rockstar". -oo

There is this recruiter I've dealt with, who in EVERY post she does, puts: "You must have some serious technical chops for this position". WTF is "serious technical chops":confused:

If it's not broken, fix it until it is

I used to be a rockstar (within a very limited definition of rockstar - the other guys in the band thought I was pretty good on the drums) and now I am doing programming... but I still wouldn't apply for these positions!

One way to demo 'rockstar' status is to post one's code via an article here - an article which can potentially earn many nice comments and 5s. And then tell potential employers - "Hey - these people consider my work as 'rockstar output'. I am indeed a rockstar". Of course, easier said than done.

I say "OOPS" while programming all of the time! :)

I think job posts with "show us your code" or "articles you've written for others" are quite all right in my book. It's a good habit to develop for any developer, and something I struggle with.

Tell me aout it! I am trying to find a role when I graduated the industry was in the bin, no job unless you have 10+ years experience. Now I have 10 years They don't want to know I am not a fresh grad. The problem is agents don't know, are afraid to ask what is wanted... I have had to pick up projects done by 'rock stars' that are complete ***p. :wtf:
