Probably, but we can't prove it yet. :-\

It is pretty common for companies, at least in America, to provide free coffee to their employees via a coffee machine. I don't drink coffee so each job I have worked at I ask for free Snickers candy bars. No one has come through yet. Is it too much to ask that the minority (non-coffee drinkers) be treated fairly and equally? :(

This is what I call a "first-world problem". Buy your own damn candy (go to Costco or Sam's Club and buy big-ass boxes of them for less than retail). Problem solved.

Yes, it is; coffee is a common beverage consumed by the majority of the company. As others have noted, free Tea is usually available for non-coffee drinkers. You want snickers; Mary in accounting wants Twix; Fred in IT loves M&Ms, so soon someone runs around providing individual perks for folks who prefer custom FOOD to an offered free beverage. It is too much to ask, yes sir. Thanks for asking. :-O

My office used to have free soda/pop/carbonated beverages before the economy went south. When things get back financially, it's supposed to be restored. Until then, I'm supporting my own two can a day habit!

Many, many, many years ago I had a job working away during the week, Monday to Thursday 5 of us would live together where one of the directors and his wife also lived in a separate apartment. Each morning she made us a cooked breakfast. Each lunchtime he brought in to the office a selection of sandwiches and other snacks that she had made. Each evening she would make us dinner. We were also given beer and cigarettes each evening. It was great. They went bust at the end of the contract.

Not to mention those who want cream, milk, half & half, skim and sugar, and sugar-alternatives (e.g., splenda), in their coffee.

Each morning she made us a cooked breakfast. Each lunchtime he brought in to the office a selection of sandwiches and other snacks that she had made. Each evening she would make us dinner. We were also given beer and cigarettes each evening. It was great.

There are other needs as well. :D

My office used to have free soda/pop/carbonated beverages before the economy went south. When things get back financially, it's supposed to be restored. Until then, I'm supporting my own two can a day habit!

I worked in one of Microsoft's offices for a few weeks on a project once. They used to have free soda machines until they found out how it was getting used up so quickly. One of the night guys would bring in a huge cooler and fill it full of soda and take it home every night. They stopped offering the free soda. Ohhh, but come to think of it, Microsoft did have free candy bars and stuff. I likey Microsoft.

Honestly, I bring my own damn coffee. In a big-ass thermos. I can't drink that frilly foo-foo shit they make here, and instead of belly-aching, I take action. :)

This is the reason nobody offers anything in Italy: this behaviour is expected. Probably there would be at least 5-6 people per office doing the same thing, all knowing of the others :D

I have worked at three places where food was provided for free; breakfast lunch and, if required dinner. One place even had a free bar open after lunch; the other had boxes of fresh bagels delivered early each morning. Each lunch was a choice from 3-4 dishes plus starters and deserts in a clean and comfortable canteen (except the last one which was just microwavable crap from Costco). The first had a private dock on the Thames which was wonderful in the summer. It's fairly unusual though, in my experience; most places offer tea, coffee and water and some have soft drinks. Nowhere else I have been provides snacks of any kind. To the best of my knowledge a business only has to provide fresh drinking water; everything else is a bonus though a smart company will provide stuff to keep you in the office.
