A phone interview is getting a data set in an excel sheet. If it is a "interviewer" and NOT some manager of the company it leaves a bad taste. I am really keen to see the office and people of a new company. It is the most important detail for me and one the other side cant deceive.

The only thing I want to hear when an interviewer calls, is the date of the actual interview. Anything that can be checked by phone can be verified by email.

Hmm, I use to be the same way until I had to conduct a telephone interview...

I usually don't carry one at work, as it means interruptions whenever I'm in flow. If there is an offer, they can describe it and explain why I would be interested. If they can't or won't, then they are not interested in hiring me.

Hi All, Just had a phone interview. They always leave me with a feeling that I have just said the wrong thing. I think the guy on the end of the phone was expecting someone who had more High Frequency design experience than I have :( . Also this new set up with the emoticons hidden :( I don't really like mind you it will stop some ridden messages I suppose need  (hey still works!)

I once had a phone+teamviewer test of skills. Most of the time I was waiting for the text to catch up with me as the connection was very slow. Took me almost an hour to make a simple calculator. Oh and every time I hit compile/run, the only feedback I would get is crash or successful - from the guy on the other side of the phone. No why or any errors written. Luckily the errors showed up in the IDE, but still, it was annoying. By the end of that test, I was left with a very low self-esteem and even though they said that I should learn and call them back for another test like that, I never did.

I'm not keen on talking on the phone anyway, you cannot judge reactions properly without being able to see a face. Plus I always imagine they're sat in their office making rude gestures to each other about me or drawing dick pics with name on on their pads and showing them to each other then muting the phone whilst I talk so they can have a good giggle the utter bastards.

Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

If the interview is conducted over the phone by the people who work with the application, they can ask relevant questions. My last two positions have been via phone interviews, highly technical in nature, and I was asked how to solve relevant issues.

Can be tricky, especially if on a poor line. But in general, hit and miss.

Just got a mail from the agent, "You have not been selected for the next stage" :( ,I think they are a bit awkward as you said a poor line and you can't pick up on visual cues...

I smoked through a phone interview once. She didn't say anything till the end of the interview, then she said she heard me smoking throughout - and would I do that in a normal interview? I replied I would if it was held in my house which this one half had been. I didn't get the job.

It wasn't a technical job or anything, in fact it was before I went to Uni, I think it was to be a logistics manager at Tesco or something similar that I didn't really want.
