anybody else use ms vs c++ express 2010 anymore or am I the only guy left? on window 10 64 bit post SP1 and after this update i start getting MSVCR100.dll is missing ... Sooooo nobody else is losing confidence that ms knows how to do windows update anymore? Yeah, I know, shoulda stayed on 7. Upon SP1, microsoft leaves around a monster sized windows.old In windows/SysWOW64 is apparently where that dll is supposed to live. When I put it back, my cpp .exes written with ms vs cpp express 2010 work again. But looks like I'm gonna have to reinstall visual studio. I hope a LOT of games use that and those gamers get extremely angry. So nobody else, eh?

I'm pretty sure I've opened VS 2010 some time in the past 6 months, but I'm not going to bet on it. The debugger in VS is simply unrivalled in my opinion and has been at times, an invaluable tool. Back when significant portions of the IDE were no longer written in C/C++ (VS2k8 perhaps) was when I saw the writing on the wall and understood that VS was becoming something of a second-class citizen, created by second-class minds, or those ordered to do so by those no better intellectually endowed. So nope, not using it - not having any problems. Comparing ViewMax with Windows 3.0 many moons ago reminded me that most popular is just that - it's not necessarily any better. In many cases, in fact - there seems to be an inverse correlation. Off topic - I read your bio the other day. I felt truly humbled and incredibly lucky to have been put on to it by another CP user. Thanks!

I've just spent an evening with MacOS and it's apps trying to get stuff done. Things are crashing left right and centre, or locking up, or just not working. The entire industry seems in a bit of a trough at the moment. Android is fractured and beyond insecure, Microsoft still has some sharp nails and wet paint on it's new toys, Mac / iOS is in a simply depressing decline in quality and user experience, and Blackberry are...gone. How's Ubuntu these days? Anyone?

This just confirm to me that W10 is barely in beta anf will not be stable before 2017.

At least it was stable (apparently). I mean, people had many issues with Windows 8, but most of them were related to the UI only. It was a better beta, not speaking of the UI :D

I would think the clean way to resolve that dependency problem would be to install the VC++ 2010 redistributable. Reinstalling VS itself would be total overkill. Or have I misread something?

Well I'll have to agree with ya on that "probably beta till 2017". Windows update will need to get a LOT better before businesses are willing to go win10 I think.

x86[^] x64[^] I'm pretty sure you don't have to look for something explicit to the Express version. After installing, you'll probably want to give Windows Update a run.

installed that. double click .sln file - nothin happens. open with vs 2010 express - nothin happens. went to add/remove programs - did repair. still broke. so now looks like i get to try a new flavor of c++ express... Looks like 2015 express for desktop is my first stab... all i need is free c++ on bare metal win32 (and resedit) so hopefully i don't need a new windows sdk for resedit or debugging tools for windbg. pray for me, please :)
