Entrée Choices

A friend of mine accidentally ordered a salad with frog legs in France. By the look on his face I think he wanted to hop away. Oh boy, that one was lame, but true. He ate them but said he'd never need to have that dish again. Rule for ordering food in a foreign country: translate first, then order.

Yeah, salads are pretty lame.

They taste like chicken; seriously, they do; IMO they are kind of a useless "meat".
I'd rather be phishing!

Department meetings this week; out of town colleagues are all here. Went to dinner as a group at a restaurant that highlights game for the evening meal. Entrée choices: halibut, salmon, shrimp, venison, bison, kangaroo. I opted for the venison; it was supposed to the 'gamiest' - enjoyed it, but grew up eating moose, so, I knew what to expect. I've had bison burgers... enjoyed that. Tried the kangaroo... interesting texture and flavor. What have you tried for the first time, outside of your normal dining choices, and what were your impressions?
Probably cat and dog, if Trading Standards were right about the takeaway Chinese near my digs at Uni... :~
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Bacon - every time is like the first time. :) Marc

Octopus. I found it chewy and dry and wouldn't order it again. I tend to stick with beef, chicken and grilled seafood. /ravi

It wasn't cooked well, I also ate some bad octopus and didn't want to try it again. Once I've been served a well cooked one - completely delicious. It's a PITA to cook and the slight mistake ends up in a insipid rubber... but if done properly it's wonderful.

Hare ragu. It costs an eye - it's worth it. And venison salame - very strong flavoured, I liked it a lot. My GF made me for the first time curry chicken with white thai rice - it almost moves me to tears for how muh it's good. Also I like a lot the japanese seaweed salad - tried last week.

I know - thanks to my mothers average-to-terrible cooking abilities coupled with a high self-esteem it's the kind I ate the most. X|

Where I grew up in Australia an entree meant starter (it's the "entry to the meal"). When I first came over to North America I remember looking at a menu in a restaurant and going through the Entree section. 12oz steaks, full lobsters, large plates of pasta. Entire wildebeests. I was almost too scared to see what the main course options were.
cheers Chris Maunder
