That is all I have to say, nothing more to add... Although.. I do wonder why people are *still* using Oracle! :O I mean, if you hate MS, why not use MySql instead?

I'm working on SQLServer nowadays, but I would prefer Oracle. I think it's a lot to do with on what system you learned SQL. SQLServer is more forgiving than Oracle though, it's a bit like comparing VB with C#.

A few years ago I got saddled with having to work with Oracle and thought I would brush up on it (I had not used it in a decade). When I ran across an article by an Oracle DBA who praised Oracle for their requirement for all caps on TABLE AND FIELD names I ducked on the project. There are many things to dislike about Oracle but that was a deal breaker. Oh yeah and the POS Toad is another one.

Everytime I used Oracle I can't help but wonder "there are people who rave about Oracle? Who are those people!? :O"

They are Oracle consultants who get very rich from people using Oracle.

"There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult." - C.A.R. Hoare Home | LinkedIn | Google+ | Twitter

MySql is also owned by Oracle! ;P I'm actually surprised that it still exists and is free and open source. I would have thought that Oracle would have either retired it or made it a paid product by now. And seriously, after having worked with MySql: It's crap too! I would never, ever use it myself in a production system. It's a Mickey Mouse database system that is good for nothing but small homemade websites with minimal database requirements! X|

I agree , for me I have a lot of time for Postgres - bit of a learning curve if you're from MS background but worth the effort.

There is no such requirement, default behaviour is case insensitive. If you want them case sensitive you need to wrap them in double quotes "", same as [] on SQLServer. Personally I find the limit of 30 characters for Table and Column names a lot worse.

My company uses a lot of Oracle. Luckily I'm in the SQL Server team. Just this week a coworker from another team said to me "SQL Server is not a real database." I replied "For a not-database it has awesome tooling compared to the much more expensive Oracle." His mouth disagreed, but I'm pretty sure his heart knew I was right :)

If I did that, I would get a Disney lawsuit on my hands faster than you can say "Goofy"!

Yes! that! :D I rather work with "Not a database" which is awesome than a so called "real database" that can only be used remotely close to 10% efficiency by "real DBA"
