We're not out. The process of getting out won't start at least until October, the focus until then will be on electing a new PM. After that there could be a general election called. So nothing until this time next year. Then investigation and negotiation. Then it could be put to the people that a threat to leave has helped us negotiate and staying would be better. Possibly with another referendum. Boris doesn't actually want to get out, he just wants to be PM. If we do leave the process won't start for at least two years, and then take another two years to conclude.

The process of leaving will start soon. Otherwise negotiations would not be started. Cameron must send a letter to EU soon with the fact that England leaves. It might/will take up 2 years before UK is definately out. We welcome Scotland and Northern Ireland in the EU within these 2 years :D

So we are out - which is something I wasn't expecting (nor voted for). I don't know what it's like where you are, but in the office here, there's mainly shock and disbelief. However, and this is why I love being British, there's also a good deal of banter with all of our 'European' friends here in the office (which there are quite a number). Suggestions have already been made to place any non-Brits on one side of the office only accessible by passport control - good ol' British sense of humour making the most out of a bad situation! :sigh:

I am sad about it and I am sorry about all of you that you wanted to stay. It will be a hard period, but everyone will survive it. But now... IMHO all parts must be consequent. Negotiations and blah blah... why? Getting the good parts and rejecting the stinky responsabilities... that's not fair. Out was democratically selected, OK then... really out. Do it like with plasters, short and sudden to avoid inunnecesary pain.

It's been over 30 years since fish and chips (or any other food) was allowed to be wrapped solely in newspaper. If this is an example of how 'in touch' Europe is with our culture then I guess we done the right thing!

Now England is out of the EU we do not have to speak English anymore as default language in the European Parliament. The Germans, The French and the Polish have the best changes. And do not underestimate the Greek population.

The process of leaving cannot start without an act of parliament that passes through both houses. The referendum had no legal status. The issue will not go before parliament until we have a new prime minister which cannot be before October. Once notice to leave is given then there is a two year limit to get out. That is why negotiations will start long before the notice is given, so that they have some idea what to negotiate about when they start negotiating.

Yes, you will. It is the primary language of Cyprus, Ireland, and Malta and the language of choice for a number of other members who prefer it to French or German.
