That's probably because they actually still care about politics and what their political leaders do, unlike here in the US, where what we care about is who's getting voted out on some reality island show. And yes, I know there's other countries in the world too, but unlike the Brits, they seem to have a either a better sense of dignity and keep their opinions to themselves, or they live in regimes where speaking is censored, often enough self-censored, "or else." And then there's Australia, but who listens to them, and they know it. There, have I successfully insulted everyone? ;) I even remembered to click on the joke icon, lest someone take offense, but they probably will anyways. Marc

Some of us care, but at the same time, we know that who's elected does not matter in the least.

He's an Australian living in Canada. I think he's probably on the side of "I don't give a sh|t".

Oh, I don't know there is a lot of worried people (non-brits) outside the UK. But yeh, you're probably right!

Every time there is a significant political event that affects the UK, we get a bunch of postings by Brits here in the Lounge that violate the "No Politics" rule. Are Brits excluded from this rule? Should we start kicking them? :^)

As A Brit I would recommend perhaps to 'applepie' their beds :)

I had to google the term to find out what it means. It sounds like a good idea. Being in the UK, maybe you can help us get a head start?

So there's the rule, and there's the reason behind the rule. The rule is straightforward. The reason behind the rule is to remind people that this is site for software developers, not axe-grinders, and debates on some topics (sex, religion, politics, and the best beer) can take over everything and make the forum pointless for everyone except the few argumentative trolls who insist on stirring up pointless debates. In this specific case its kinda of A Big Deal. This will affect software developers on both sides of the pond. It affects everyone, and affects those in the UK acutely. It's also the sort of discussion that will run its course naturally and be over with in a few days. We're a community, we share our experiences, our thoughts, our hopes and fears and our outlooks. To not allow this would kill what we have going here. Having said that, the kid-sister rule always applies, and if the discussion does start turning into axe-grinding, baiting or trollsters then the discussions get moved or nuked. I trust you guys to be sensible. You generally are - and for that we're grateful.

Amen! I particularly like Lazarus Long's dictum about strong drink: "Beware of strong drink; it can make you shoot at tax collectors - and miss!"

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack. --Winston Churchill

I have been known to check a hotel bed before entering it, much to the amusement of my wife.

Even the Pope agrees that the best beer comes from Belgium - one of many countries whose Prime Minister has not been accused of placing his generative member in the mouth of a dead pig. There, that should cover all the bases. :-D
