Politics in the Lounge
-
Every time there is a significant political event that affects the UK, we get a bunch of postings by Brits here in the Lounge that violate the "No Politics" rule. Are Brits excluded from this rule? Should we start kicking them? :^)

As A Brit I would recommend perhaps to 'applepie' their beds :)

You forgot to accuse me of being romantically involved with sheep. But that's OK - I forgive you!
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

You mean blank lines? I think you may have forgotten something!
I am not a number. I am a ... no, wait!
Woosh!
What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question? The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism. Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

A Brit from the 1940s then?
I am not a number. I am a ... no, wait!
No 1970's - I went through the trauma of 10 years of boarding school where an applipie bed was the least of traumas ;)

Makes me want to dig some old Heinlein books and the Notebooks of Lazarus Long. His views on politics (at least in his books) was good for a laugh and a thought

So there's the rule, and there's the reason behind the rule. The rule is straightforward. The reason behind the rule is to remind people that this is site for software developers, not axe-grinders, and debates on some topics (sex, religion, politics, and the best beer) can take over everything and make the forum pointless for everyone except the few argumentative trolls who insist on stirring up pointless debates. In this specific case its kinda of A Big Deal. This will affect software developers on both sides of the pond. It affects everyone, and affects those in the UK acutely. It's also the sort of discussion that will run its course naturally and be over with in a few days. We're a community, we share our experiences, our thoughts, our hopes and fears and our outlooks. To not allow this would kill what we have going here. Having said that, the kid-sister rule always applies, and if the discussion does start turning into axe-grinding, baiting or trollsters then the discussions get moved or nuked. I trust you guys to be sensible. You generally are - and for that we're grateful.
cheers Chris Maunder
Thanks. Had always assumed this was the case.

Amen! I particularly like Lazarus Long's dictum about strong drink: "Beware of strong drink; it can make you shoot at tax collectors - and miss!"
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack. --Winston Churchill

I have been known to check a hotel bed before entering it, much to the amusement of my wife.

Even the Pope agrees that the best beer comes from Belgium - one of many countries whose Prime Minister has not been accused of placing his generative member in the mouth of a dead pig. There, that should cover all the bases. :-D
