You probably should have bought an American made pickup. Just through whatever it is you have in the back. On top of that, it would also include a pre-mounted gun-rack.

There are many things I could have got, but considering that as each new generation of my family has come the genepool has widened I don't feel I have the right breeding for a pick-up.

Let's not even talk about parkings...

This will be the THIRD set of mountings I have bought for the roof box, a box that cost about £100 and has now set me back in excess of £500 to get it on top of the cars. :mad: AND I need to find a replacement parcel shelf for the back of the car; another £150 or so.

I used to have a 1985 Olds Delta 88... a boat of a car. When I needed to transport a quantity of items, I purchased a roof box, drilled holes, attached securing points and put it on top of the car. No racks, just the car top. I then used ratchet straps from the securing points; the straps when just between the doors and the roof. Low cost and effective.

Long ago, when I'd commute now and then cross country, I bought a Sears "strap on" roof rack. Worked for a family of five for many years - best of all, removable when I didn't need it. Fit nicely atop a used Buick Century. I hate permanent installations for transient needs.

Cover shields you from fire, concealment merely hides your position. Depending on what you put in it, the roof box is almost definitely concealment and not cover. In fact, only two places on a car can function as cover, the rest is barely even concealment...
