I live in a ground floor apt. Some time ago I heard a strange sound, like metal being thrown to the ground on the porch ('twas 1:15 AM, and it's usually a quiet neighbourhood apart from the alcoholic on the 2nd floor yelling at his wife, but he got a lot more quiet since the police spent them/him a visit). Anyways, that night we (we as in me and the police - reasons for calling the police further down the post) couldn't find any evidence of anyone strolling around the hood. Yesterday I finally found what the sound came from: The awning pole (which I usually hang at a hook on the wall) was cleanly leant on to the glass which separates my porch from my neighbour's. Now way it fell down and leaned itself there. I do know some people who potentially could have done this, and I don't really want most of them on my porch (or anywhere near me), not late night and not during daylight. So now that the why of the title is explained, has anyone of you guys experience with controlling cameras or motion sensors with Win 10 IoT Core on a RPi? If anyone can tell me what the most aggressive pepper spray I can legally get is, that would help as well.

Nah. Bigfoot would've left the pole on the ground. In fact, I'd be a lot happier if I knew that this was bigfoot, I rather have an encounter with him than withe the other suspects.

Some time ago there was a post, I believe started by JSOP concerning an automated recognition/tracking system but I'm sure 50 cals. Are a tad harder to purchase in these trying times.

I have very limited experience with the following, but I have actually set it up on an RPi 2 Rev B running the standard Raspbian distro with a USB camera I bought for somewhere around $3USD. You will want a better camera though that does infrared for night-time vision but I think the rest will work the same. I followed the instructions at the following link and even though (at the time) I basically had no experience with it I got it going and taking pictures when motion occurred. It's really quite easy. How To: Raspberry PI Web Cam Server | PingBin[^] If nothing else it is a starting place for you. You can probably get it all working in about 30 minutes or so. Good luck.

this might be of some use .. https://create.arduino.cc/projecthub/AnuragVasanwala/home-automation-0dcefc[^] - I would be using the PIR Sensor to start the USB camera recording and turn on some outside lights - this guys project is way bigger of course, you dont need the water pump interfacing, but is a good example

It's not the initial cost, but the upkeep - licensing, vaccinations, food, exercise, etc. etc.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack. --Winston Churchill

Yes, the walking will be healthy for you, without having to pay for a sport-school. And not so long ago most dogs ate leftovers from the table. No idea what a license may cost over there though. While a camera may record anything as evidence, a dog may work even preventive; some people are afraid enough to not even come close to the fence.

I live with dog alarms - scares the #$%$%^ out of anyone on my front porch that makes the mistake of pushing the "make dogs go berserk" button. Humans call it the door bell. USB cameras don't pee on the carpet either. Shop around newegg or the like. What you want is a battery powered motion sensitive camera (or two). If you have a power source, then so much the better. I don't know if your porch is your entrance or the back, but I bought the ring video door bell for the wife. Catches all sorts of critters on my front porch - bats, lizard, large moths and children who come home too late :)

Don't have the sort of camera/recorder that detects motion by comparing one video frame with the last. That sort is totally useless for outdoor use. One that I know of triggers on every raindrop that goes past at night, when the built-in IR floodlight gets refracted straight back into the camera, every bird that flies past in the day and every leaf that waves about in the wind, day or night.

Pepper spray? No: use Raid Wasp Killer. It'll shoot 30 feet and stop 'em. Works well on raging dogs too.
