Win10 video flicker, part 2 (& 2.5 w/ fix)

I previously reported (The Lounge[^]) that the Win10 Anniversary Edition update makes my i7, 8GB laptop with touchscreen running Intel graphics flicker like crazy. Today, it has literally turned entirely black for 15 seconds or more before it finally re-draws. It's terrible. I started thinking about refresh rates, screen resolution and the rest and started screwing with the settings in the graphics options. Custom Resolutions I'm normally at 1366 x 768 but I decided to switch it. It does seem like a lower resolution makes it not happen as much. That started me thinking. when I go to Custom Resolutions it warns me that being at some resolution not expected by the manufacturer could cause my screen and/or graphics hw to have a shortened life. :confused: I know that pushing a monitor to refresh at abnormal speeds might be bad. But my point now is this... ...Doesn't allthis flickering mean that the drivers are doing bad things to my h/w too? And doesn't that mean that Microsoft would have some responsibility in the shortened life of my h/w? I suppose Satya Nadella will be calling me at any moment? :laugh: :laugh: Edit : Part 2.5 I found an article on MakeUseOf.com that explained how to roll back my driver. Weird, it was just the other way around for me. Ever since I got windows 10 ( August 2015 ) ,my second monitor (driven by an intel 4600) was acting up: after every reboot I had to disable/enable it using device manager to get it to show anything. Since the Anniversary update it starts up okay now after a reboot. I guess microsoft is aiming for divine status but we could do with a bit less of the mysterious ways stuff.

I assume you read this: Because Windows 10 has mandatory updates, you now need to head to Microsoft’s support page to download a tool to stop the system automatically updating your driver – you can disable this when you know that the newest driver has patched the screen flicker problem. Crazy. Download a piece of software to prevent the OS from downloading new stuff that is broken. :laugh: Marc

Microsoft may be pushing the driver on their own site, but they didn't write it--it's still (in your case) Intel's.

Microsoft may be pushing the driver on their own site, but they didn't write it--it's still (in your case) Intel's.
