Did you go through all manner of issues getting it installed? For the thrird time now I've had no end to problems... on 3 different PC's

If it's not broken, fix it until it is. Everything makes sense in someone's mind. Ya can't fix stupid.

What errors are you getting? Admittedly, I have had a lot of errors with Xamarin, but it is working for me now. What version of windows are you using? Please provide details and perhaps I can help.

Just curious... Has anyone actually gotten Xamarin Forms to work in Visual Studio? I've tried installing it on 3 different PC's - Home, Company 1, and now Company 2 ... and in each case it's a nightmare getting it installed. Then, when it appears to be installed, I get countless compilation errors that say "Please install.... blah blah blah". So, anyone here actually have it working?

I've installed it on a Windows 7 laptop. And also on a Windows 7 VM running on a MAC. Biggest problem I had was getting it to connect to the MAC. After a couple of updates on both the W7 and MAC sides things seem to be pretty smooth now.

Even more against the rules to admit to coding in it... Are you still having problems getting it to work? Xamarin Forms still works fine on my system (I must get back to learning how to use it... :sigh: )

Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Yes, yes, I do see a pattern emerging here. Every thing works just fine on my system until I actually start using it. :-\ Cheers!

"Took me a bit of fiddling" Very concise whilst not too precise! Been there and done that, but most of the time it's due to not having enough and also correct information. X| Let's push this out the door, if they really are keen on using it they'll figure out how it's supposed to work. My current source of woe: TFS 2015 / TFS 15 vNext build system. Works out of the box except if ... (It is really great let me assure you of this, but trying to find good documentation on it is not! ) Cheers!

Most of us still code in VB, so this is pretty futuristic technology you are talking about.

I even didn't tried! :) IMHO Xamarin as a 3-rd party company don't reward attention. .NET is a MS platform and THEY are completely responsible for proper UI lib on Linux. But instead of burying clumsy WPF and making usable UI, MS just points finger "hey, see, these guys make something like UI!". WTF?!! Who is responsible for that UI? Nobody. So why we should waste time on "hand made" library w/o any support and quality assurance? ATM MS has only two robust combinations: Windows+WinForms & Windows+WPF. Last one is slow and clumsy, so only 1.5 combinations. :)

Its posts like this here and in other forums that have prompted me to consider offers like this. Apparently, Xamarin has been a mystery to more than a few folks. https://codecareeracademy.com/intro-to-crossplatform-mobile-xamarin/[^][^] Further, this is promoted by a popular meetup group here in our area address[^] Also , the instructor is a regular speaker at coding events.

I used it at a previous job (~2 years ago now). Got it working fine. Had to get all those dependencies taken care of that you're noticing, but I don't remember it being that painful.

I got it to work using VS2013. It was painful but worth it. I have two Corporate Apps running. Once you figure out the hundreds of little obstacles, you can get to a nice little code->deploy cycle.

Use visual studio built in installer. Tick android development (xamarin) I have not run into troubles until now. The thing I hate about Xamarin is, the apk it produces is way too bloated. >_>

Indeed the easiest is to install Xamaring with Visual Studio, it may just take time to download everything. I remembered thinking that it wasn't working, but it's just because I didn't have the Android Emulator installed.

Yes, but process could be better. I ended up with a fresh win 10 install. Then used the Zamyl universal template then I fixed each problem just to run an empty project. Was painful but eventually got through it. Good part of the problem is Different Nugett packages and then updates from his Xammer in. It's worth the effort though once you get a good stable install working in all platforms we care about, you literally have one C-sharp CodeBase. Used stackoverflow a lot. Product has come so far since it's mono days. Except for the installation issues that really is a mature good product
