Firefox 50.0 Crashing
-
Got a customer running Windows 8.1 as a server, they are running a third party product to enable multiple RDP. It has been working for years and has all available Windows Updates installed. Yesterday Firefox updated to 50.0 and since then if it is started by anyone they get Bad news first this tab has crashed. Event viewer shows faulting module to be MSVCR80.DLL 0xc0000005. Can't find anything useful on Google and I have uninstalled and reinstalled having deleted the left over directories as I saw in one advised fix. Also downloaded and installed VC++ 2005 SP1 redistributables x86 and x64, didn't help. Anyone got an answer for this?

My solution would be to take up drinking, but sadly, that arrow is long gone from your quiver of coping strategies.

I don't know exactly what's going on, but I've found FF 50 and 51 beta much less stable and more crash prone than 49 was...

You could also look at this as a possible culprit. I've 50.0 on two Win7 machines and not crashed (so far).

Eat a dick Dave. Not my code, not employed to program and not about to debug someone else's fuckup. Was looking to see if it was a known issue that I couldn't find anything on.

Profanity is not necessary. I am just trying to help. All systems administration certifications whether it be LPIC, RHCE, VCP6-DCV or even MCSE would require that you learn some operating system debugging skills. You would be more valuable to both your customer and employer with debugging skills. The 0xc0000005 error code is an access violation. It could be caused by an anti-virus or other third party products installed on the operating system. The 'faulting module' being MSVCR80.DLL is unusual as this is the C runtime that millions of applications use. A complete call stack would be much more useful... the module calling into the C runtime is likely the cause... but you would need the complete call stack to see the caller. Now we have gone full circle... use a debugger... takes literally less than 5 minutes to find the exact cause. Best Wishes, -David Delaune
