I vote for Clonezilla. Ugly interface but works every time. Make sure you use the latest version. Free. I only run Windows in a virtual machine, easy to backup, just copy the files to the NAS.

Rules for playing Javascript frameworks. 1. You can't win. 2. You can't break even. 3. You can't get out of the game.

That's been my strategy for years now--I use VMs a lot, and don't have any software running on the host OS at all, except for motherboard drivers. It's fast enough to reinstall Windows from scratch nowadays, and cumulative updates are now refreshed every month, so I don't bother backing up the host OS. With that out of the way, backing up entire VMs is just a matter of copying a few select files (or just the VHD when it comes down to it). Migrating them from machine to machine is also trivial. That means you're also not dealing with proprietary backup software file formats, and don't have to worry about partitioning and all that crap.

I have been able to boot it, the problem is once it starts cloning. It complains about corruptetd NTFS

Taking a wild guess, since you're trying to use a 14 year old tool it doesn't actually support the current flavor of NTFS. MY first guess would be lack of support for GPT (vs MBR); but I'd've expected that to be a total can't read drive failure.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. Yes.. that was my guess too. I can see the drives and the partitions, but when it starts it fails within seconds. So the problem is while actually reading the data, which points to format incompatibilities. Thanks for your comment :)

I've never used it but they have a PXEBoot tool that should help you in that.

If you don't mind you could expand that information (if it is more confortable for you, use the E-Mail instead of open answer) By the way.. if Email, you can write on spanish.

If the tool can't deal with EPT, then the backup won't run through anyway. You need a newer tool. There's a great one from a German IT magazine, but I can't find anything English on that.

Hi Nelek, I don't mind, but I believe I'll not be able to help a lot... But I can send you the links I've found on their web site: http://www.aomeitech.com/pe-builder.html[^] Here it looks like their PE Builder comes with all the needed software integrated... Also they offer the PXE Boot tool that allows you to handle all the images from network... http://www.aomeitech.com/pxe/pxe-boot-software.html[^] But this is another story... Hope the first one will help you and be what you are after... PS: I'm super curious now... how come you speak Spanish?

Hi all, at the end I have bought a new laptop for my wife. It come with SSD and HDD, win 10 preinstalled. After changing to legacy in BIOS I could start with my Norton Ghost 2003 Boot CD, but then I got some error messages I never saw before. I have search a while and done some tests but sadly without success. I suppose my boot cd is a bit too old and can't manage the new styles with Win10. (Other PCs or Laptops with Win7 had no problem at all though) I am starting to think on changing tool and would like to know... what are you using to make your backup images in your Win10 machines?

I just use the built in Backup and Restore (Windows 7) to create system image backups. This is the windows 7 tool that they have left in place for the time being. The images are vhd as well so you should be able to mount them if you need to access a particular file. There are probably some limitations compared to a paid product like Acronis, but it works fine for me.

AOMEI Backupper[^] - I may have mentioned it before: damn good software, the free version is excellent and full featured - you can create an image and later restore it, or load it as a virtual disk to retrieve individual files if you need them. I have given a try... and the result was not so good. I have installed AOEMI in one Win7 Laptop. Then I have created the Boot-CD with WinPE. So far so good. I have changed the Win10 Laptop boot type to Legacy, Inserted the CD, started up, got to the menu so far so good But... crap 1) The booted WinPE doesn't react to mouse or keyboard (but keyboard works, ALT+Space gives the menu to minimize/maximize of the window and ALT+F4 shuts it down). Had a look in AOEMI's forum, the problem was already on 2015 and haven't been solved yet. crap 2) Now... my laptop won't boot in legacy mode anymore. Somehow the WinPE has corrupted something in the legacy structure... I am looking for information about this, but nothing so far... UEFI is still working fine (thanks heaven). In this moment my opinion about the software is way not so good as yours.

Another up vote for Macrium, with a down vote for Aomei. Set up backup for client, they didn't want less savvy users to access the backups 'without assistance' - apparently some dumbass had daily deleted all the backup files on a mounted share because he was running out of space on his main drive. (Also wanted protection so now they can't see/read each others backups etc. etc). Anyhoo, Aomei could not mount the backup files to do restores. Firstly browse for file has no option to type a path (point and click only), and double clicking the incremental file in explorer threw up because it still couldn't find the parent file even though in same folder. Tech support no response, luckily was still in 30 day trial. (Even on visible drive Aomei restore sucks, but people love it because it's '1-click only' backup. Surprising the number of people that swear by their backups, and never test restore.)

Sin tack ear lol Pressing the any key may be continuate
