The Indian forum was requested because we had many new Indian users who joined and weren't aware of the etiquette of the lounge. Unfortunately they tended to get a lot of abuse. Having a separate forum helped introduce them to the expected behaviour of the site without them being attacked. This is a good thing.

Most interestingly, today its main purpose is for people who moved from India to other countries to stay in touch with the happenings there. The active participants are all non-Indian citizens/residents. :)

It's mainly politics now. You'll be hard pressed to find any cricket. The 5 page threads you mention were never in the lounge I don't think. The creation of Git coincided with the cricket World Cup so there was a lot of cricket in there to start with. See Petes response for the true original reason.

I was personally rather disappointed at the lack of cricket discussion there during the England India series.

Most Indian posts I've seen start with "Dear sirs," that's certainly not the kind of etiquette you'll see in the lounge!

Here's how I see it typically pan out.

Lounge-Indian : Dear sirs, could someone revert back to me and do the needful regarding this 101-level C# programming task that I am being paid for in my day job? Lounge-Brit : (makes sarcastic response punning on arbitrary words from above response) Lounge-American : F you, you took our jobs. Lounge-Indian : How can you say that to me? How can you slap? Lounge-Brit : (makes another joke only other Brits would find remotely funny about the American, hinting at his being a Trump supporter) Lounge-American : F you (to the Brit), you all have horrible teeth. Lounge-Indian : (resigns and decides to post in the GIT regarding Prime Minister's Modi's demonetization scheme)

        Such a lovely place :-)

 Don't Strines speak (a dialect of) English? (Or at least of Cockney :))

Yeah partly my fault, my current domestic situation means I haven't watched much cricket and wasn't really following it. I think the first test I only checked the result when the second test started. You should have roasted me and tagged me in a post to get the discussion started.
