12 minutes earlier I got an email to download it - it is still gets 404 :-) [UPDATE] Tried MSDN download - not responding at all...

Skipper: We'll fix it. Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this? Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

You're supposed to publish the final version of Visual Studio 2017 today. It is already 7:30 on the East Coast and I cannot find it anywhere. Don't keep me in suspense. You won't like me if you keep me waiting!

In the meantime, VS 2015 still works. Or 2010 if you're at my office. :-\

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who can extrapolate from incomplete data. There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Pros: + it's lightning fast + it's the only one capable of running on our equipment (1 GB of RAM. In 2017) Cons: - Terrible space-eating interface, even on a 24" 16:9 screen it's barely enough. I like collapsible panels :^) - Almost compliant to C++98. Say hello to all the new features. - VB6 debugger sucks. If the debugged process crashes, the IDE crashes. And of course it doesn't save breakpoints anywhere so everytime it's a new start.

No, it doesn't. Nor it dawned on them that the resignations of core employees with 10 years of experience harms them. Neither they reach the conclusion that banning Internet access to developers is counterproductive. Penny-pinching management instead of intelligent one. After all, in the now famous words of our CEO, we are "software labourers", not engineers or programmaers or developers.

How can you develop code with no internet access? Anything more than Hello World & I'm straight onto Google.

MSDN and then thought, thought, thought. It's mostly custom algorithms and hardware communication so there isn't much help on the internet nonetheless.

Definetely. Add that the pay is extremely poor - exactly the pay of a laborer - and I have reason enough to GTFO. The trouble is that I learnt very little that is valuable out there since we use technology which is 20 years old. The work itself is good, it's the pay that irks me the most. And I'm lucky, I'm not a technician: those are sent around the world without company issued credit card, without company issued phone and sim card and they have to anticipate the expenses that will be refunded a month later. With expenses that go up to 3000-5000 euros and the same or lower pay than mine it's idiotic.

I haven't used VS much in recent years (I last used the 2010 edition). However, if its is fast and lighter-weight and faster to install then I might give it a try in the near future. Have they finally given proper functionality to the free version? Or do they still skimp on installation projects and the like? I don't want a free version that is little more than a toy (VS Studio lite 2010 is fine for that).
