So you didn't lose too much - and if you don't have a backup, it's probably not worth trying to recover the disk. Blame whoever took the passport! When you get the new one going, back it up - USB drives are pretty cheap these days - if nothing else, it means that you can restore it in an hour or so if it fails again, or you get ransom-wared. When did you last back up your "proper" dev machine?

That one is at work, and is backed up daily. I will start watching the q&a section for SQL questions, and try to answer when I have the time. Is there a proper forum for Java/javascript? The play framework that they are using is based on Java, and I have NEVER touched that animal.

Thanks, Griff. I am a professional. I have been working with SQL since before they shortened it to SQL (30 + years). I had an image on a passport, but that has disappeared. I couldn't remember the name of the imaging software that you guys had recommended. I found it. This is my training machine, so the only thing on it was various IDE's (Visual Studio, Intellij, SQL Server - freebie, etc). I am currently learning Scala and the Play framework for the position that I just got hired for, so I lost all of my training setups. Again, thanks for the advice, and the quick response, it is greatly appreciated. I love reading the various entries in the Lounge and Soapbox, and have for years, although, I rarely respond to anything. I've used CP as a resource for years, not the stupid 'Send codez pls' type, but actual, real world applications. So, thanks to all of you who have shared your code snippets over the years. Someday, I will post some of my own.

They are very different beasts, related pretty much only in name and a "based-on-C" syntax. They have separate forums: JavaScript Discussion Boards[^] and Java Discussion Boards[^] - but QA is a good place for queries on either as niether forum is particularly busy. We also have a Tips section which is handy for useful code snippets, including SQL: Submit a new Article or Tip[^] if you have code that doesn't fit an existing question. Doesn't take a lot to write one and they are a lot more permanent than a QA answer. For example: SQL Totals for this week and other useful time periods[^] Articles are expected to be a lot more "heavy duty" and can take a long time to write, but tips are expected to be small and focussed.

See Data recovery[^]. No guarantees but it may help.

There are different tools which work with different modes. Try to dont write anything but read. Best is too try some tools, if they dont work you better remove the drive and connect to another PC. There are some professional company specialized but pricy. As you see: a backup is also a good idea.

Press F1 for help or google it. Greetings from Germany

Thanks, I found the software. I just don't want it to happen again, since it has taken 6 hours to re-install the various softwares on my new machine. Still a little upset over losing the passport that had my image though.

Ok, try this. A little coffee in the morning, and coding at night can be very confusing. (2 words)

I was thinking more along the lines of javascript syntax (especially for beginners)
