We are currently having an unusual-for-Wales weather event: it not only isn't raining, but you can see the sky, a big yellow hot thing, and no clouds; plus the temperature has risen to the "sticky" level. So yesterday I turned on the air-con in the car, and it was useless. The air it was blowing was a few degrees below the temp inside the car, which was best described as "sweaty". X| So I just got back from having it re-gassed, and wow! I'm thinking of moving my bed in there for the night, it's so cool and dry! Now, any suggestions on how to get my desktop and monitors in there? :laugh:

My wife took her parents car (a nice SLK) for the weekend... She was not lucky as the aircon decided to fail and started to throw hot air instead of fresh/cold air... After one hour of super-sweating she parked at our house and left the car there parked for all the night. The next morning everything worked fine. :wtf: PS: Just park inside your house, leave doors open and full throttle at the aircon... perfect balance and comfort.

Does anyone do that? Is it true? My car, a 15 year old Honda CRV that is proving to be utterly indestructible has never been re-gassed but was struggling a bit in the 33C heat of the M11 last night. Problem is at £50, well that's a sizable chunk of the car's value...

My current car, a Toyota, old enough to drink in a pub, is still running on its original gas. Might be a little down on cooling efficiency, but not much. However a previous car, GM product, lost all its gas suddenly just after the 3 year warranty expired (of course, Mr Murphy). Compressor seal was shot.

Nope, but I only bought it in March second hand, so it was worth a try. Halfords do a "while you wait" re-gas for £30 which worked fine for me, and I think the initial "will it charge up at all" test is free. Air-con also improves demisting in winter, because the air that it pumps is dryer than straight outside air apparently.

Spending this week at my in-laws (upstate New York), working remotely. Coming from South Carolina, the humidity is considerably less, but people here are complaining about it, so it really is all comparative. Having said that, even though I'm working out of a camper in the yard, so no air conditioning, I do enjoy the atmosphere and view... and lack of commute to the office.

probably froze and blocked the compressor output pipes - in really hot conditions the compressor works a bit too well. Germany doesn't get proper hot Summers so by default their air-cons are not factored for real heat - can be (should have been) adjusted to suit local conditions.

When I first moved to Tulsa (from southern Germany) I was shocked at the lack of mountains there - also at the fact that everything had A/C. I lived in my A/C house, got in my A/C car and drove to my A/C office. After work I drove to the A/C mall (on 71st street), then to the A/C supermarket (Albertson's, I miss you) to do some grocery shopping and then back home to A/C comfort! If everyone in Tulsa relocated to Alaska I think the Global Warming issue would just go away.

BBC reports 28C today in Wales... that does not justify to turn AC on!!!

That may be true for those who are used to the summer temps of Israel, but here in Tennessee, and probably Wales, 28C/82F is 4C/10F degrees warmer than the threshold temp for A/C to be cranking out cooler air.
If you think 'goto' is evil, try writing an Assembly program without JMP.

Yes. ...and even the trees were stumpy! My wife is originally from OK but even she left as soon as possible for Colorado so she knows what mountains really are! When we moved to MD she was a little nervous because there were 60+ft trees all over the place and she expected them to fall over at any moment! She says some places are great but Oklahoma is only OK.

Living with that right now in South Florida... Mechanic said I needed a new compressor and quoted me $600+. I laughed and said the old beater isn't even worth that much anymore. Time to price out a new one!

Either that, or replace the compressor yourself with a 2nd handie from the wreckers, followed by a re-gas. For my '03 model, i can grab a compressor for $59 or i can grab the entire a/c system for $144 - each price available if i remove the parts i'd like from one of the cars in their yard - sure beats gardening on a sunday!!

Exactly (unless you have freezing conditions) It was during such a manoeuvre this week I discovered mine has had enough. Still though, 14 years and 380,000 kms isnt such a bad run..

An attractive option, if I thought I were even remotely competent to do the work. Since I don't have a backup car to get to and from work if I muck something up... I'll stick with rolling the windows down. :sigh:
