That is an impressive case but I don't have that kind of money to spend on a case.

But, but, but ... MINI-BAR! :-D I know it's not cheap. I couldn't afford it either, but I bought it anyway! Probably the last case I'll ever buy.

If you don't mind ebay and refurbs, this might interest you [MSI X79A-GD45, LGA 2011/Socket R, Intel Motherboard | eBay](https://www.ebay.com/p/MSI-X79A-GD45-LGA-2011-Socket-R-Intel-Motherboard/116297034)
Yeah, I was also going to suggest hunting a motherboard down on eBay. I recently upgraded from an LGA775 system with a Core 2 Extreme QX9650 CPU. I thought it was still quite usable, but I needed a system with Hyper-V capability, so I had to move on.

Well, it appears my home rig has given up the ghost. Darned motherboard died on me. The bad thing is that it was a LGA 2011 socket that seems to have been abandoned by the hardware industry so no viable replacements. So, what does the community think of the replacement I am planning to build?
Case: Thermaltake Core V71 Full Tower [^] Proc: Intel Core i7-7740X [^] MoBo: Asus Rog Strix X-299-E [^] RAM: 16GB DDR4 2666 (15 CAS LAT) [^] Drive: 2X Intel 600p - 512GB M.2 MVMe [^] (Raid 0)
That's pretty much the core of the system. I will be able to cannibalize an 850 watt PS and GTX 970 from the current rig along with 2 SSDs and 3 spinning disks. Had the motherboard and processor since January of 2014 so it's not like I didn't get my money's worth out of them. I am irritated that I unwittingly chose a dead-end socket and chipset :sigh: Hoping that I am not locking myself into that again with 2066 socket.

I don't know if you are fully set on the case being a Full Tower, but I recently made a new build for which I spent a long time comparing cases on the web and in the stores. I did look at that Thermaltake case you link to, but the Full Tower chassis are just too big for my taste and needs. It does have a little brother, but I checked it out in a store and it just didn't do it for me. I finally decided on going with the Cooler Master HAF XB EVO (RC-902XB-KKN2)[^] and I am overly satisfied with that choice. It is a very handy case if you need to move it around fairly often (as I do) and you have great access when tinkering with components.

Why raid 0 the ssd's? Please don't say for performance! Also double check your PSU has the right CPU power connectors for these new mobo's. It probably does have them but worth checking first. Oh and 4 years is a massive amount of time for a socket, doubt 2066 will last much longer!

I highly recommend this beast[^] of a case. Plenty of room for everything you want to put into a case, including a snack and mini bar.

Expectations seem to be rather low, these days.

With Intel there's no such thing as non-deadend socket/chipset. :)

That's a neat little tower. I can see where it would be a benefit where excessive size would be an issue. I, however, need all those extra internal drive bays .

Probably a good thing. I have one of them too, took twice as long to assemble the case as to build the system that went inside it.

After a lengthy battle between the inner-nerd and the frugal-gotta-pay-bills part of me, I settled on a single M.2 hard drive for the C: drive. I am going to raid a couple of SSDs and POSDs to get better performance out of them. It helped that a single M.2 drive on the PCI-E lanes has a nearly 40% read time improvement over two SSDs in a Raid 0 array.

Not even close to being true. Looking at the gallery I'm not even sure if you could fit a twin 120 mm radiator in it (top clearance looks rather tight); nevermind the quad 140mm beast I bought my leviathan to hold.

I don't know about that. The LGA 1051 socket doesn't ever seem to die.

They don't make them as good as they used to, at least in the consumer sphere. The motherboard before this one died a fiery death when a SATA cable developed a short and shot sparks and flames out of the case. With the current motherboard, I had to send the first one I received back as it was DOA. I was pleased to get almost 3 1/2 years out of it considering the complaints that were pilling up on Newegg about it after I bought it.

Alas, the new Quality Control Paradigm. It's cheaper to ship everything, let the consumer be the QC, and replace the item if it fails.

Umm...That's a mid-tower case. Not even close to the size of the one I got. My case has a "basement" where the power supply goes, room for a second power supply next to it, and more room for a 420mm radiator. On top of that is a "midplate" that makes up the floor of the case where the motherboard goes. There's enough room, front to back, to put two full ATX motherboards, with enough room other that to put another 560mm radiator. And that's before you get into the expansion options on top of the case. I don't have a second motherboard, but I do have a 1.75l bottle of Jack Daniels, a fifth of Captain Morgans, a fifth of Johnny Walker Black, and a smallish bottle of Winter Jack in there. And my case, thankfully, doesn't look like R2D2.

Yeah, it took 3 hours to build. I don't mind that much at all. The case is considerably larger than my last one and weighs half as much. A consideration I had when picking it out because of the yearly ritual of taking the machines outside and blowing out all the dust in them.

}My concern looking at the case is that I'm not sure if there's enough space between the top of the case and the motherboard for a radiator. Even a thin radiator will be about 25mm thick (and thin radiators don't work particularly well), half or twice again that is common. And you still need to mount a fan on in to push air through. A lot of cases don't have room for that; and that one looks marginal at best. A secondary concern is that AFAIK no one sells 200mm wide radiators; so unless the top is pre-drilled for 120/140mmm fans you'd need to mod it to mount them.
