Sigh. The EU fucks up again

I'm sure all the rich people in Britain will stop buying Mercedes and BMW and switch to Toyotas and Hondas because of .... what? Your pound was devalued 15% in the last year alone. How much does that make in tariffs and how much did german sales fall so far?
It is more than that: German businesses in UK plead for Britain to stay in EU[^] They are already shitting themselves. How about the fiver German car manufacturers with factories in the UK? How are they going to relocate and how much will it cost them? It is going to be painful for Germany, and at a time when it will now be the only big payer into the pot. Believe me, a walk away with no deal is going to hurt the EU a lot, and Germany in particular. That is why we need a business based pragmatic approach to the negotiations.

Sweet! So when do they intend to get started?
British engines set the pace in f1 and IndyCar - Telegraph[^] Mercedes opened the doors to its Brixworth facility in rural England to tell the story of how its world-beating Formula 1 hybrid power unit is designed and built,[^] In a white office at the Oxfordshire HQ of Renault Sport Formula One Team[^] Something like 95% of all F1 cars use British made components, and almost all the teams are based in the UK. Marshal amps. Arcam, Dennon music systems. If you want high tech engineering, Britain has it in abundance. Heck, we started the industrial revoloution, do you think we dont know a thing or two about it? ;)

They will eventually relocate and close their businesses in Britain. All of them will eventually relocate. There are/will be better places to do business on the continent. In the medium/long run that is the better deal for everybody. If 100 billion worth of business is forced to leave the island and go to the continent, there you have more than 10 billion taxes annually. Consider it a budget contribution.

Yeah, but you pretty much threw it all away in the 70's and 80's.

Yet, your auto industry is virtually non-existent.

No, just "the vast majority"; the vast majority does not integrate well, which too helps to fuel anti European sentiments. Most of them economic refugees, they take room that a real refugee could use to avoid real persecution.

So on the one hand we have you, saying its all rosy for Germany, and on the other German business saying 'for gods sake stay in the EU!' Right. My hope is that we negotiate a good relationship with the EU, with freedom of movement FOR EUROPEANS WHO ALREADY HAVE JOBS TO GO TO IN THE UK. (In fact we could have interpreted the existing rules that way, and kept out all the criminals and scum from eastern europe), and free trade. And we pay a bit for that priviledge. Perhaps half what we pay now. How does that sound?

Nevertheless, Sunday's vote marks a significant shift in German politics, with initial projections showing the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party winning over 13 percent of the vote[^] 94 seats will be won by the AFD. Who are they? The party was founded on opposition to Germany's financial support of other Eurozone states and the third main point of its initial platform called for Germany to cede no further elements of its sovereignty to the EU without approval via a referendum[^] Anti islam, anti immigration, anti gay, anti AGW, etc, the usual. If the EU had not forced immigration on Europe, if it had not forced ever closer union on Europe, if it had not dictated and instead listened to the people of Europe, there would not be an AFD. There would not have been a Brexit. The far right would not have gained such support across europe. The EU by its very dictatorial idealism is in fact destroying itself. When will continental Europeans learn for fucks sake.

I wasn't under the impression that the EU "forced" any member state to take large number of refugees/migrants. How did they do that to Germany? Threaten economic sanctions? I do however suspect that if Germany itself (not the EU) had not decided to take 900,000 refugees/migrants that the AFD would certainly have had less impact.

I dont even know if I should respond to such a childish reply, but here goes: The EU has ignored, by trying to erode national borders, by trying to erode the sense of race, the sentiment of the people. This has lead to the rise of the far right across europe as a response, not because the people want a far right, but is only the far right that is talking to their concerns. The EU doesnt have to implement far right policies to win these people back, it just has to let the process of integration and a true European nation happen naturally, over centuries, and not try to force the issue in 10.

Nothing I have seen, excluding those that are specifically and repeatedly attempting to denigrate the EU, suggests they are doing that. Does the EU impact on UK sovereignty? - BBC News[^] Certainly some are sure to take that view when state run attempts to prop up their own local economic source are not allowed. But those attempts are always nothing more than charity and do nothing but decrease national economic prosperity.

The EU Needs A Three-Child Policy – And China Should Pay For It! | Zero Hedge[^] So, an economic move by Europe, not humanitarian one as Merkel promotes it. It is not about saving people from war elsewhere, it is about our workforce and its economics. Sounds very honest of our patriottic politicians, who are paid to work in our interest, and who would technically ensure a democratic process. The EU is as democratic as a drunk Juncker

Why, dont you want to work in the UK? Better for the UK to allow qualified east europeans in to work there, no? And I have worked with east europeans in various european countries and they do a very good job by the way.

Yeah, you are right, Denon are japanese. Anyway, as you can see British engineering is some of the best in the world. I read that our satellite industry is the biggest in Europe. Car manufacturing is strong in the UK too. There are five German car plants in the UK. Of course Brexit is going to make that difficult, it is why so many Germans want a free trade Brexit.

Same reason I don't want to live and work in Eastern Germany (or Germany for that matter), where I used to live for a long time: It is obviously not written on my forehead that I'm a law abiding super-genius with an income, three times the average. And I don't want to have to explain it to various bigots.

Are you Canadian by birth or did you move there? Just wondering why you met bigots in Germany, are you asian perhaps?

I am Bulgarian by birth, got scholarships in Germany to study and do doctorate and research, eventually moved to Canada, since it is the best country for expats IMHO.
Yeah, it seems pretty good. Quite like western Europe in many ways, in fact it reminded me of Germany, but I imagine a more prosperous country. I was in Toronto for a week. I have a lot of relatives in Canada actually, all my cousins are there.

Oh for f***s sake. That is the Daily Mail (and their German equivalent) speaking, it has nothing to do with reality. Get a grip. If you're in Germany, maybe try reading up on German history, in the 1930's. It's the same old shit all over again being stirred up by the same shitty people. Or do you think the Jews deserved what they got as well?

Really? The cousin of a friend and the wife of a co-worker have been raped. The daughter of a neighbor got frightened because some guys were walking behind her when going back home after going out with friends, in this one I can't say it is for sure or maybe she just got frightened without real reason, but teenagers are afraid of going solo / in small groups during the night.
A_Griffin wrote:

If you are not here, maybe you should try to get information of first hand. I can understand that you don't blindly trust the media, I don't do it either. But what I am telling is experienced in first grade relationships. And I can ensure you, my co-worker was not "playing" the anger he had after his wife was raped. Heck... even I get angry when I think about it. Still... I try not to generalize and I know that most of the refugees are not like that. But even though, statistics and what the people I know explain are pointing at least in the same direction. And the bad mood, angry voices each time something happens are getting louder with the time. And I don't need the news for that. I just need to hear conversations of people in the street / bars...
A_Griffin wrote:

Yes, I can give you that, but I can see no validity in this argument as a explanation / denial of the facts.
A_Griffin wrote:

No, they didn't deserve it. No one deserves something like that. And just because your previous comment "shame shit, by same shitty people", that's exactly why I am starting to get a bit uncomfortable with the possibility that the story repeats itself.
M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.
