I've heard good things about Vizio and LG (has better app stuff in it) as well.

I'm on my second LG - not that big, we can only fit a 42" in without blocking the window - and I've not had problems with them. Good features, good picture, and good connectivity (although you need a soundbar; as with all "thin" TV's the speakers are crap).

Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay... AntiTwitter: @DalekDave is now a follower!

The wife is making noises like she wants to get a new TV. We already have a 65-inch Sharp Aquos LED TV that's six-seven years old, and she wants a 75-inch. We've eliminated the QLED sets because they're way too expensive, but have established that we want HDR. With that info, can anyone here comment of their own TV in that same class (75-inch with HDR)? I honestly have no idea which brand is decent anymore. BTW, we're buying ceiling is hard-set at $2500. ------------- I forgot to mention that we run all of our stuff through a home theater receiver with 5.1 speakers, and have a separate DVD player, cable box, and media center PC devices. The PC is connected to the network/internet. We don't really need a "smart" TV because we have the PC. The sound quality and "smartness" durability of the TV itself is kinda moot because of the above. We'll be treating it like a glorified monitor.

Here's a warning about getting a Samsung smart TV. They stop updating the OS after 3-ish years so unless you have an external smart device like Roku, the smartness of your TV is limited to about 3 years.

I prefer to use the intelligence of a DVD player and let the TV be a "dumb" monitor. That's because of how my various audio sources are connected with the receiver. Plus, if the DVD player is out of date I can replace it easily and inexpensively.

Yeah, that works, especially if the DVD player has apps for YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Currently at my mother-in-law's house; added Hulu and Amazon to her Wii. And, watching DS9 via Hulu... as long as it works, I'm happy.

Must be a TV? A friend of mine just bought a beamer and is in love with it. AFAIK with 2500$ you might get a nice one. I personally am very happy with my Samsung from 2013, used "un-smart" (laptop pluged to TV as smart part)

M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

I agree strongly with this. Newest TV I have includes 'smart' and I find it irritating and useless. And that with a new TV. The interface it intended to up sell products like pay for movies and consequently makes it harder to get to the content that I am already paying for. With external devices I can always switch to something else.

Don't let apps dictate your TV purchasing choices. They're all crap. But if you do care about apps, stay away from Sony, as they're known to remove some without any notice. Not that I'd personally ever recommend anyone buy anything from Sony.

I've been using projectors for about a dozen years, and I've never heard anyone refer to a projector as a "beamer"...though I suppose I can see why.

Oddly enough, I'm not being cynical when I say "can't she just sit a bit closer?". I guess it has to do with growing up with B&W TV, but, no matter how big the screen, there's precious little worth watching, let alone SuperSizing an extra-extra large.

I have never seen it spelled - only heard it said, and I have always heard it said, "beamer." That's just me and my sheltered, west coast upbringing though.

I'm on my second LG - not that big, we can only fit a 42" in without blocking the window - and I've not had problems with them. Good features, good picture, and good connectivity (although you need a soundbar; as with all "thin" TV's the speakers are crap).

With the rate that local cinemas are closing. I'm sure there must be one close by that would be within your budget.

Must be a TV? A friend of mine just bought a beamer and is in love with it. AFAIK with 2500$ you might get a nice one. I personally am very happy with my Samsung from 2013, used "un-smart" (laptop pluged to TV as smart part)

I definitely want a projector for my movie watching. That's because of my friends. Or I should say: Whoever visits me to see a movie, whether friends or others. It seems like everybody today considers a movie screen to be something that flickers away, for them to take a brief glance at now and then, inbetween all the chatting and helping themselves to more food and drink and showing each other their latest pictures on their phones. If something in the movie catches their attention, they remark it, want to talk about it with the others, and if they have seen the movie earlier, they tell what will happen in a few seconds. Before Chistmas, a friend of mine with a huge LCD screen invited people to watch one specific Christmas movie - that was the very reason for getting together. Yet, ten minutes into the movie, people was still chatting without interruption. After fifteen minutes, the movie action was building up, and the chatting slowly died away... (In case you wonder: The movie was the Finish Christmas Horror Movie "Rare Exports Inc.", highly recommended but it might influence your ideas about Santa :-)). My idea about watching a movie is to really watch it. If the movie takes 90 minutes, you give it 90 minutes, in full. The way you do in a movie theater. When the room is pitch dark, people tend to talk a lot less. They are less tempted to look for the snacks or beer. So they are more easily captured by the movie, quieting down, putting their cellphones away. Maybe five years from now people will ignore the darkness and chat away even in my movie room (and in movie theaters). But for now, a projector significantly reduces the amount of disturbances for those who really want to watch the movie.
