Because everybody is a law abiding citizen until he isn't and you are wrong that it will do nothing to keep guns from potential criminals. Less assault rifles will certainly mean less danger. Simple statistic.

    1. There's no such thing as an "assault rifle". Even the ATF admits it's a term that someone made up to make black rifles more scary to the general (and uninformed) public. 1) Strict gun laws work? Really? Tell that to the people in Chicago, LA, New York, etc. Gun laws don't prevent criminals from getting guns. At all. It's a proven fact. Why do y'all persist? You can't win this argument.

Assault rifle is an accurate term, regardless of political/media slant. I don't buy this reasoning.

So, non-black assault weapons are not scary?

Neither can you. Looks like Trump is going to ban bump stocks. That is a start.

Funny you should ask. :) Ruger makes a semi-automatic rifle (like an AR-15) is chambered in the same caliber as an AR15 (.223/5.56), and that accepts the same magazine as an AR-15, yet is not considered an "assault rifle". Why? Because it's sold with a standard wooden stock (like most hunting rifles).

I've always viewed the bump-stock as a gimmick that sacrifices accuracy in the name of simulated automatic fire, and not worth my time. Banning accessories is pointless, is a token gesture at best, and is not related to the Florida school shooting. Besides that, Trump cannot ban bump-stocks. That is a legislative act, and he is in the executive branch.

The bump stock was used in the Las Vegas shooting. Trump wants to ban it. He has asked Sessions to start the process. Process complete. Bump stock banned. Trump banned the bump stock.

I'm aware of where it was allegedly used, but Trump doesn't necessarily want to ban it. Talking about banning it is a token gesture to get the gun grabbers to STFU.

When I leave the house, I always have a pistol in the car - even when I go to car shows. The pistol is in a holster, and is in contition-1 status (cocked and locked, with one in the pipe, and the thumb safety is on) unless I'm cleaning it. I like 1911's because I feel they're safer than Glocks (Glocks don't have a thumb safety, and aren't heavy enough to beat your opponent to death if you run out of ammo). I ain't Rambo, and don't pretend to be, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

It's not racist, I'm white myself. But I was really surprised I admit. Most of the gun owners on youtube and elsewhere on the Internet talking about this are quite the opposite of reasonable and guess what color they are.

Either you agree to have your RIGHTS curbed or you make it easy for anyone to buy a semi-automatic rifle and murder kids and teachers at school. It's a fairly simple choice.

They're only "murder weapons" when someone uses them for that purpose, like arrows, knives, bats, rope, cars, plastic bags, stairs, what have you. The Amendments were crafted by men who recognized the natural right to self defense and freedom from oppression.

They are tools that are exclusively designed for murder on a large scale, unlike knives, ropes and cars. There are no maurauding bands of pirates you need to fend of, and hence, you don't need cannons. The right to self-defense does not mean that you need to be able to buy submargines and jet-fighters. Like nuclear missiles - you don't need them, and you having those weapons is creating a risc. You're not allowed to take those things on a plane, because the introduction of the tool is more dangerous than those bogeymen that you claim are out to get you. Grow up.

So, as soon as you need a gun, Eddy is like - "the cops are only 10 minutes away!" American gun owners just shakes their head in disbelief. (Canadian - non-gun owners meanwhile take shots at either side. :-\ )

I'm pretty sure I would not like to live in a world in which I would never be offended. I am absolutely certain I don't want to live in a world in which you would never be offended. Freedom doesn't mean the absence of things you don't like. Dave

I have never needed a gun; didn't need any at the attempted robbery either.

An American would have been shot with his own gun, in that place. What would John do in my place? Ask them people to wait while he fetches his gun from the car?

So you've made your choice and there's nothing wrong with that, as long as you realise that choices have consequences. Of course some might think that they have a responsibility to their fellow man to consider the lives of children to be more important than their right to own a piece of metal that they don't really need. But if you think your rights are more important than your responsibilities then who am I to argue.

If it's about the "crazy 1 in a million", why should *I* - as a rational and responsible gun owner - be subjected to additional laws and restrictions that INCLUDE threatening to get the 2nd Amendment repealed? Laws and restrictions only serve to infringe on the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, and do NOTHING to effectively keep guns out of the hands of people bent on visiting evil on the world.

No, but it has a telescoping stock (which is an indicator that the rifle is, in some way, evil - if you believe the statistics). It's also not black any more, so I suppose you could say it's less evil than it was when it was black.
