I remember that series well, it was on Dutch television in the seventies I think. For that time it was fantastic !

It's a bit dated now, but it was all about the characters and not about special effects.

For me, there are really only 4 TV/film sci-fi franchises: Dr Who Star Trek Star Wars Stargate I'm not that keen on Star Wars and some of the early Dr Who is pretty poor. Been watching some early Stargate and it was very good. Which is your favorite? Have I missed any? Honorable mention: Firefly/Serenity. Would have been the best of the best. Sigh. [EDIT] To clarify: I mean shows where there are both TV and film episodes as well as spin-off or secondary series (like Torchwood).

If you like early Trek, have you seen StarTrekContinues[^]? It's a little jarring at first, seeing different actors in the familiar roles. But it actually does a pretty good imitation of TOS. :) It's also fun looking out for the cameos - James Doohan's son as Scotty; Marina Sirtis and Michael Dorn as computer voices; Colin Baker as an alien; and I'm sure there are several others I've missed.

You missed Battlestar Galactica :omg: If you have not seen it(the recent version not the 70's version) you are missing out on some excellent sci-fi storytelling. I stopped watching Doctor Who when it became overly political with regards to being overly conscious of and ramming gender politics down my throat(but that's the BBC for you...).

If it follows the books, hold on to your hat: things are about to get interesting. :D

I didn't have the chance to read the books, but it's likely it will be my next purchase.

Enterprise is pretty good - first Enterprise in space didn't even have big phasers on the ship - captain didn't always take the high-road; much more human - no prime directive - no federation - sort of a prequel Also, I've seen 1-8 of "Star Trek Continues[^]"

I used to like Enterprise, but it's getting more and more childish with every episode. :(

What! No one mentioned Tomorrow People? The UK one (70's). And there was; UFO ('70's) Some good Brit Sci Fi. And for the silliness: Lost In Space (70's). (at the time thought Judy was cute and always hoped Dr. Smith or Robot would really obliterate the snotnose Will.) And let's not forget TorchWood - Dr. Who spinoff but grown up and with more action.

Yes the endings were not great(I say "endings" because there was the extra episode created which alse had an ending). However as far as I was concerned the whole series was so well written that the poor endings did't spoil it.

Sure you have missed a lot, but in this case I don't even know if an English version ever existed: Raumpatrouille Orion[^] The commander notoriously disobeys orders and is a general pain in the rear for his superiors, but gets away with it (most of the time). Too bad they only made eight episodes, more like a mini series.

I was gifted a DVD set of ORION for my birthday in the late 2000's and I'm pretty sure it was dubbed in Italian, but I have a doubt that some episodes were actually in English and with Italian subtitles. I'll have to dig it out and check! :-D
