Yep: and it's not surprising how many have left it to the last minute, given it's law today I think...

Yes! Almost every site I have account on is doing that. They are all telling me it is simpler to understand now. And as a very good consumer, I am not even looking at it. Brings to mind, where is CP's we have updated terms email?

I find it even more surprising that relatively large websites like the Chigago Times and the Los Angeles Times didn't make the last minute, and instead just disabled their whole website for visitors from the EU. They've had since April 2016 to prepare.

The German computer magazine c't is collecting abstruse ones (l+f: Das DSGVO-Absurditätenkabinett | heise Security[^]). Two so far: 1. Send to an editorial staff account "Do you want to remain in our database?" send to 497 visible recipients. First delete replies to this "mailing list" has been already received. 2. From Twitter (unverified, Audiatur et altera pars on Twitter: "#DSGVO ausgehebelt[^] ) 10:29 Request mail received 10:30 Thank you for your acceptment mail received Both mails has not been opened before. Investigation unfolds that the AV software is opening all links within mails (see above twitter link for a JPG with statement text from the marketing software producer).

Tons of app updates for GDPR compliance as well. Gee... I wonder how much carbon was pumped into the atmosphere indirectly due to this EU directive?

Imagine all the carbon emission savings if companies had respected user privacy without the EU having to make it the law ;)

Supplementary question: Does anyone at all seriously believe that if you do NOT return a confirmation that they can continue collecting personal information about you, then they will immediately STOP doing so? Haha. If caught, they will tell that "We haven't received the confirmation yet, but we expect it any day now, so to make sure that no info is lost, we save it. But we promise, really promise, that we will not make use of the info until we receive the confirmation, and that will be any day now..."

WHOIS left it even later and their last minute attempt won't be accepted (it has lots of holes).
