I find it even more surprising that relatively large websites like the Chigago Times and the Los Angeles Times didn't make the last minute, and instead just disabled their whole website for visitors from the EU. They've had since April 2016 to prepare.

Supplementary question: Does anyone at all seriously believe that if you do NOT return a confirmation that they can continue collecting personal information about you, then they will immediately STOP doing so? Haha. If caught, they will tell that "We haven't received the confirmation yet, but we expect it any day now, so to make sure that no info is lost, we save it.
